Did you know? The Special Olympics Michigan Eaton and Ingham County Area 8 has been the charity partner of the Playmakers Autumn Classic since its inception. As the story goes—

“In 1982, Kellie Dean (now owner of Dean Transportation) was a teacher at The Beekman Center in Lansing. He held a foot race that fall to raise money for the Area 8 Special Olympics Program.

Curt Munson (who opened Playmakers in 1981) attended and won his age category. When Curt asked about his award, he was directed to the trophy table where he had a choice of a basketball, bowling, football or archery trophy!

Curt loved the race, and having just opened Playmakers, he offered to help Kellie with future races. The Autumn Classic was born and our local Area 8 Special Olympics Program has remained the charity partner ever since!”

On August 20th, we were proud to partner with Power965fmlansing and The Desk Drawer Foundation for the 17th Annual Backpack Giveaway at Lansing Eastern High School! 🎒

Together, we helped provide more than 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to local students as they prepared for the new school year.

Supporting this event was part of our 45 Forward commitment for the month of August, our year-long initiative to give back to the community that’s supported us for the past 45 years.

Thank you to everyone who made this incredible day possible. Here’s to helping more kids start the school year with confidence! ✨

We will be closed on Monday, September 7th, so we can give our staff a well-earned day of rest with friends and family.

Did you know? 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of Good Form Running!

Launched in 2006 by Playmakers founder Curt Munson along with Co-owner John Benedict and Olympian Grant Robinson with the goal of condensing various running techniques and theories into simple steps that runners of all abilities could understand. Over the years, the three simple points behind Good Form Running (landing, posture, and lean) have helped thousands of people nationwide learn to run more efficiently and reduce their risk of injury.

Since then, Good Form has evolved into an entire series of programs, including Good Form Walking and Stretch, Strengthen and Roll (originally Good Form Movement) designed to help everyone move more and move better.

September 1st also marks the start of Good Form Month. Make sure to stay tuned all throughout September as we share some of the history and impact that Good Form has made on the mid-Michigan community for the past 20 years.

On Saturday, August 29th, join Playmakers and On for a free Community Run/Walk celebrating the maximum support found in the new Cloudrunner Max 3. 👟

Starting at 7:30am from the Munson Community Room, you’ll get an exclusive chance to try out the Cloudrunner 3 Max & Cloudboom Strike 2 for yourself, enjoy some post-run refreshments, and more!

Groups will be running various distances and paces, so you’ll get the chance to meet with friends old and new while you log your morning miles.
