Because of his observations,quick thinking, and willingness to act; Ryker Yochom saved an infant’s life.

A young hero is being celebrated in Bixby, Oklahoma, after his split-second decision helped save an infant's life.

Scout Ryker Yocham is being recognized for his bravery after jumping into a swimming pool to rescue an infant who had fallen into the water.

Ryker received a Life Saving Pin and Command Coin from the Bixby Police Department, presented by Chief Todd Blish. Previously, we received an award through Scouting America.

According to police, Ryker didn't hesitate when he saw the infant fall into the pool. He immediately dove in and pulled the child to safety.

“Acts of bravery and selflessness know no age, and Ryker’s actions serve as an outstanding example of courage, leadership and community responsibility,” the Bixby Police Department said.

Wells Crowther, a recent Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree, practiced serving others while a scout.

On May 22, 2026, President Donald Trump announced that Welles Crowther, a Scouting alum known as “The Man in the Red Bandana,” will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

Crowther was 24 years old and working on the 104th floor of the South Tower during the September 11 attacks when he repeatedly returned into smoke-filled stairwells to guide others to safety. Survivors later described a young man wearing a red bandana over his face who helped lead them down to safety. He is credited with saving as many as 18 people before losing his life when the tower collapsed.

The announcement was made during a rally in Rockland County, New York, alongside Representative Mike Lawler. President Trump described Crowther’s actions as legendary and highlighted his courage and selflessness. Crowther’s mother, Alison Crowther, also spoke and shared how his legacy continues to inspire people around the world.

Today, his red bandana is preserved at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, serving as a lasting symbol of courage, service, and sacrifice.
