Gordon Roger Alexander Buchanan Parks (Gordon Parks) a self taught photographer was born in Port Scott’s, Kansas on November 30,1912.
His parents’ names were Jackson and Sarah. They owned a farm. He had fourteen siblings. His mother died when he was a teenager. After her death, he moved around and lived with different relatives. He began to live on his own at the age of 15. He had to work many different jobs to make ends meet.
Parks was a photographer, author, poet, composer and film director who became a prominent in U.S. documentary photojournalism.
Parks took pictures that told the authentic story of Black Americans, not the sad and hurtful version, but the version that the media often left out; He took candid photos of everyday living in the black community.
