Mama Joyce moved to KC in 2021, and at 90 years old, insisted on working for 1KC! With her unmatched work ethic, she arrived every Wednesday afternoon to prep hats and beanies for the Made in KC Marketplaces and other local boutiques. The repetitive tasks, with her dementia, brought her great joy and pride. When the work was done, she’d look in awe at the number of boxes that she had prepared. She absolutely loved “clocking in” at the kitchen table for those fun last work years of her life. ( If you bought a hat or beanie from 2021-2024, she handled and tagged your purchase. )
 
You all loved seeing Mama Joyce on Wednesdays, so to her delight, we added to her workload by offering her to star in 1KC reels with our favorite girl, Avery 😊 We aren’t sure how much she grasped social media, or even knew what she was doing at times, but she loved and cherished the moments. At 92 she debuted in her first 1KC photo shoot where she wore the very shirt named after her, The Tacha Tee. (If you have that tee, it’s named after her. And is the top selling tee of all time.)
 
We loved that you loved her. Thank you, to each of you, for all the messages and love you gave her.
 
Finally…Thank you Mama Joyce – your time with us was worth more than gold.
