Every once in a blue moon, a bride walks into our shop with a gown that already fits like a glove! There’s only one thing…she’s 5’3” and the dress is toooo long. If you’re thinking somewhere on the lines of…but how does that work without taking all the lace off the bottom of my dress?!😱😳Is that even possible to shorten?
The answer is: Yes!!! We carefully, and with great skill, completely detach the lower edge of lace, trim the gown to your desired length, and sew all that lovely lace back on to recreate the original edge!!! Though I’ve heard some say this sounds extremely tedious, I must admit, it is one of my absolute favorite bridal alterations to do!🥰🪡So bring ‘em on!!!💪🏻All those lace hems!

For brides who are shorter in stature, there may be significant alterations required in the length of both the skirt AND the bodice/top. Here are some before-and-after photos of a dress that underwent a 10-inch length reduction between the hem and shoulders/top.

In addition to the length and fit alterations, the color of the lining beneath the lace didn’t quite match Jean’s preference. To address this, we completely deconstructed the bodice, replacing the outer layer of lining with a creamy white georgette that preserved the contrast of the lace without blending too much into her skin tone-just what she hoped for and more.👌🏻🤍🥰
