I have a husband who can do it all.
Sometimes (more often than I’d like to admit) I take that for granted. I’ll ask him to fix this, or build that, or figure out something-or-another—and I don’t pause to realize how amazing it is that he has such a wide range of skills.
We haven’t had to call a repair man of any kind in years. If one of our appliances stops working, he can usually get it going again with a few twists of his screwdriver, a new part he will install or worst case, an entire remake of the insides with parts he made from stuff he has in the garage. (No joke, this happens a lot and he will tell me he “made” the part that broke or that he needed) and when I say made, I mean MADE. Welded, fastened, glued, etc. of random things he already had. And as always, said item works good as new when he finishes.
When a project needs done around the house or yard, he’s on it. Building furniture, landscaping our yard, building whatever he needs for the job, adding and installing electrical outlets and fixtures, you name it, he can do it.
What he doesn’t know, he can figure out with a YouTube video or a little trial and error. He picks new things up so easily and remembers every detail of everything he has ever done. (which always tends to come in handy at some point in the future as well)
He’ll use an excavator or bobcat to prep the yard and dirt for an in-ground fire-pit, or an area for the dogs. If we need a fence or if part of the existing fence needs fixed, he handles that too.
His hands are calloused and usually dirty. His jeans and shirts are always stained, and his baseball caps could all use a good scrub.
He never complains, he just rolls up his sleeves and does the thing that needs to be done. (Seriously, I have yet to discover something this man can’t do.)
He’s the strongest and most capable human I have ever met! His attitude towards anything challenging is amazing. He will be done and cleaning up well before 99% of the people on the planet have done given up or still trying to figure out how to do it.
He is selfless with the people he cares about. Whether it be time, money, help, or anything else that is needed. He is kind and compassionate.
When I’m overwhelmed, anxiety filled or unsure, he’s the calm to my worry. When I am struggling he has this “everything will work out” kind of attitude and when I need help with literally ANYTHING, he is there full force to help me.
He does things everyday to show me how much he cares about me. He will install a complete stereo system in my car, or build me a little library, or build a floating bed only because I thought they were cool or at some point mentioned how much I liked them. When we need one ingredient we don’t have, he grabs his truck keys and is off to the store before I have time to blink, always returning with not only the missing ingredient, but flowers or my favorite water or something he knows I like. When I want to change up the color of the walls or do a complete bathroom remodel, he will do it without a single complaint.
I sometimes wonder if there is anything I can do to even begin to come close to doing for him what he does for me. So far I’m galaxies behind.
With him, I always feel safe. I always feel loved. I always feel cared for. And I always know he has my back…. I don’t even question it.
I could literally go on and on and on but I guess there has to be a stopping point somewhere, right?
