Have you ever wondered about birdwatching? Birdwatching has many meditative and mental health healing effects. Generally, getting out in the fresh air can improve memory and concentration, but birdwatching can help create a more robust social bond with your family and friends.
Many studies have proven that spending time in nature can significantly reduce anxiety and cortisol (stress hormone). According to the National Audubon Society, tens of millions identify themselves as birders. Why is this activity so popular? Primarily because birds have a calming effect. Most people get more stressed watching TV, while birdwatching brings a sense of tranquility. Other benefits include improved cardiovascular health and faster reflexes. Birding requires extensive amounts of moderate-paced hiking, which is exceptionally useful in keeping your myocardium (muscle layer of the heart) healthy.
Additionally, birding rewards are not readily available since it requires a vast amount of patience to catch a glimpse of the desired bird, improving patience skills. After a lengthy wait, the birdwatcher needs to be ready at any second to grab the binoculars or camera to capture the moment. Having fast reflexes not only allows you to be a successful bird watcher but will prevent a barrage of small disasters from happening in your day-to-day life and help you better thwart off danger.
