Juneteenth celebrates the freedom of all Black Americans. Following Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, Black Americans were still slaves in Texas for TWO MORE YEARS before a Union Army General proclaimed the freedom of all those enslaved. And it wasn’t because it took Texas two years to hear the proclamation. Texas resisted and continued practicing slavery. When the Union Army General arrived, he had enough troops to take over the resistance and free America’s remaining slaves.

Texas made Juneteenth an official state holiday in 1980. As we work together to continue the fight for the true freedom of Black Americans, we cannot wait to see Juneteenth as an official American holiday.

Breonna Taylor would have celebrated her 27th birthday today. She was on the front lines of the COVID pandemic as an award winning EMT and first responder in Louisville, KY.

On the night of March 13, the Louisville Metro Police executed a no-knock warrant, reportedly looking for drugs they never found, trafficked by a person who did not live with Breonna nor in her complex, and whom they ALREADY HAD IN CUSTODY.

Breonna was shot 8 times - killing her while she slept. We will not forget Breonna and we will fight for her justice and legacy.

Today we celebrate the beginning of Pride Month by honoring Marsha P. Johnson, a black transgender woman, activist, and prominent figure in the Stonewall uprising. Marsha's identity in the revolution for rights led to the birth of modern day Pride and the LGBTQ rights movement.

Let us remember that the Stonewall riots were rooted in police brutality against q***r bodies and spaces. You should celebrate and defend Black lives because Black lives are the main reason many of us can celebrate Pride as we know it today.

We lift up all variations of our flag, but we're especially committed to making our 🏳️‍🌈 celebration a ritual of intentional education and conversation. We hope you are, too.
