The name’s Bond. James Bond. 🍸🤵‍♂️

Classic black tie on the outside. A little 007 on the inside.

One of the best parts of creating a custom tuxedo is making the details entirely your own. This custom lining featuring classic James Bond posters adds personality where you least expect it.

Because sometimes the best details are hidden.

💪🏼🤵‍♂️

This particular client happens to be a bodybuilder, and that presents an interesting challenge when it comes to tailored clothing. Broad shoulders. A developed chest and back. Large arms. A comparatively narrow waist. Try fitting those proportions into a standard off-the-rack tuxedo.

Usually, something has to give. Go large enough to accommodate the shoulders, chest, and arms, and suddenly there is far too much room through the waist and midsection. Size down to achieve a cleaner waist and the jacket can become restrictive across the upper body. That is precisely where custom tailoring becomes so valuable.

As you’ll see in the video, we start with the client, not a predetermined size. We discuss what he wants from the tuxedo and then move into fabrics, linings, and design details. From there, we take his measurements and evaluate the characteristics that measurements alone cannot adequately describe. Shoulder slope. Posture. Stature. Body balance. Shoulder position. Arm position. Proportions. For a physique this developed, those details matter tremendously. Two men can have exactly the same chest measurement and require two completely different jackets. That is why simply wrapping a measuring tape around someone’s body is only part of a proper custom fitting. The goal is not to make a bodybuilder look smaller or squeeze him into an excessively slim tuxedo.

The goal is balance.

We want enough room through the chest, back, and arms to accommodate his physique while creating shape through the waist and maintaining clean proportions throughout the garment. And because this is a tuxedo, getting those proportions right becomes even more important. Formalwear should look clean, elegant, and timeless.

Black Tie, Done Properly. 🤵‍♂️

Meet Clint, wearing his newly made, custom-tailored tuxedo.

There is something about a classic black tuxedo that never needs reinventing. Clean lines, traditional formal details, proper proportions, and a fit created specifically for the person wearing it. It is elegant today and will remain elegant years from now.

For a groom, a black tuxedo is also one of the smartest formalwear investments you can make. While it is perfect for a formal or black-tie wedding, its life does not end after the wedding day. A timeless tuxedo can return to your wardrobe for future black tie events, galas, charity dinners, formal holiday and end-of-year parties, awards ceremonies, and other occasions when a suit simply is not formal enough. That versatility is one reason we often encourage clients to think beyond a single event when designing custom formalwear. Instead of creating something overly trendy that photographs well today but feels dated several years from now, we can focus on classic proportions and details that have stood the test of time.

Clint, you wear it well. Thank you for trusting us with this one. 🥃

Fall Is Coming. Is Your Wardrobe Ready? 🍂

Florida may not be known for freezing winters, but fall and winter still bring cooler evenings, holiday parties, weddings, business events, dinners, and plenty of opportunities to bring the sport coat back into the rotation. And now is the time to start thinking about yours.

A custom sport coat is one of the most versatile garments a man can own. Pair it with tailored trousers and a dress shirt for business or an evening out, or dress it down with denim, chinos, loafers, or even a fine knit polo. Unlike a suit jacket, a great sport coat is designed to stand on its own, giving you countless combinations from a single garment. For fall and winter, we can also have a little more fun with cloth. Think rich textures, subtle checks, windowpanes, earthy browns, deep greens, burgundy, navy, brushed wools, cashmere blends, and fabrics with enough visual depth to make the jacket interesting without making it difficult to wear.

Of course, dressing for fall in Florida is different from dressing for fall in New York or Chicago. Fabric weight matters. Rather than simply choosing a heavy winter cloth, we can select lighter, breathable fabrics that give you the texture and character of fall while remaining comfortable for Central Florida weather. And because your sport coat is custom-made, we are not starting with a predetermined size and hoping alterations can make it work. We consider your measurements, posture, shoulder slope, proportions, preferences, and how you actually want the jacket to fit.

With the fall and winter season approaching, now is an excellent time to schedule your fitting. Starting early gives us time to select the right fabric, design the garment, have it made, and make any final refinements before your fall calendar fills up.

Swipe through the carousel for a little inspiration. ➡️

Ben K | Thank you for entrusting us with your custom suit for the BIG day! ✂️🤵‍♂️

Ben came to us for his first custom suit, and this one was particularly important. It was going to be his wedding suit.

He also knew exactly what he wanted. Rather than the slimmer, shorter silhouettes that have dominated menswear in recent years, Ben wanted to go back to classic tailoring. A traditional three-piece suit. Higher-waisted trousers. A fuller-cut jacket and leg. Timeless proportions. Something that felt more old-school than trendy.

There was another reason custom made sense for Ben. He is a big, muscular guy with broad shoulders, developed arms, a larger chest, and a comparatively narrow waist. That kind of athletic drop is notoriously difficult to fit off the rack. If you buy a jacket large enough for the shoulders, chest, and arms, there is often far too much fabric around the waist. Size down for the waist and suddenly the upper body becomes restrictive.

That is where custom tailoring changes the equation.

Instead of asking Ben’s body to conform to a predetermined size, we built the garment around his proportions, posture, preferences, and the silhouette he wanted.

And when the suit arrived? We nailed it.

Ben probably described the result better than we ever could: “My wedding suit turned out better than I could have imagined.”

He also told us that every piece fit beautifully and felt tailored specifically to him. For someone who said dress clothes had always been challenging because of his build, that means a lot.

This is one of the reasons I love what I do.

Custom tailoring is not about making every man look the same. It is about understanding the individual in front of you and creating clothing around his body, his style, and his vision.

Thanks for trusting us with it, Ben. Enjoy married life, my friend. 🥃

The Importance of Sleeve Pitch 📐

Most people think a great suit is all about the fabric, color, or style. In reality, one of the the biggest differences between an average suit and an exceptional suit often comes down to something most people have never heard of: sleeve pitch and shoulder pitch.

In the image on the left, Thomas is wearing his initial fitting garment. On the right, you’re seeing the finished result after we analyzed his posture, shoulder position, and how his arms naturally hang from his body.

But let’s talk further about sleeve pitch.

Sleeve pitch refers to the angle at which the sleeve is attached to the jacket. Every person carries their arms differently. Some naturally stand with their arms rotated forward, while others carry them more toward the back. If the sleeve pitch is incorrect, you’ll often see pulling, twisting, or diagonal wrinkles throughout the sleeve, even if every other measurement is technically correct. Shoulder pitch and shoulder slope are equally important. Human bodies are not symmetrical. Some individuals have erect posture, others stoop slightly, and many have one shoulder that sits lower than the other. These subtle variations dramatically affect how a jacket drapes across the chest, shoulders, and back.

This is where true custom tailoring and bespoke tailoring separate themselves from off the rack clothing. Anyone can take measurements. The real art lies in interpreting posture, balance, shoulder slope, stance, and body shape to create a garment that hangs naturally on the wearer. When these details are properly accounted for, the result is a suit that not only fits better, but moves better, feels better, and presents the wearer at their absolute best.

Thomas trusted us to create a built specifically for his body, and the difference speaks for itself.

Tailoring is not simply about measurements. It’s about understanding the person wearing the garment.

If you don’t create a dimple when tying your knot, then please do us all a favor and don’t wear a tie at all. And also, please stick to the four-in-hand. It’s classy, minimalistic, creates some “spretz,” and just looks so much better.

And most guys who create a big, juicy double Windsor always wear it with tiny collars and short point lengths, which look absurd.

Sorry for the rant…

A custom suit 🕴 should never feel “pre-designed.”

It should feel like yours.

At Carl Axen Clothier, the process begins long before the first stitch is ever made. Clients sit down with a true clothier and explore some of the world’s finest fabrics from mills like Dormeuil and Loro Piana, carefully pairing cloth with linings, buttons, stitching details, lapel styles, and finishing touches that reflect their personality and lifestyle.

This is where a garment stops being “a suit” and starts becoming your suit.

Every decision matters:
• Fabric weight for the Florida climate.
• Texture and weave for business or formalwear.
• Button selection and lining combinations.
• Structure, drape, and overall character.

Most men have never actually experienced the custom process the way it was intended to be experienced.

Not rushed.
Not transactional.
And certainly not pulled from a rack.

From posture readings and detailed measurements to fabric selection and final fitting, every step is designed around creating a garment that feels personal, intentional, and built specifically for you.

That’s the difference a real clothier brings to the process.

What Carl J says after his experience with us:

"I called Carl Axen because I have never been able to find a shirt or suit that fits me properly. He came to my house and went into great detail about the occasions for which I would need a suit and what style I prefer personally. He then provided a great deal of guidance, since I have never really put a lot of thought into style. What I got back was definitely the best shirt and suit I have ever had. They fit like they are supposed to fit, unlike anything I have ever gotten off-the-rack, and the quality and appearance are excellent. I'm glad we have someone doing this caliber of work in our area."

Thank you Carl!
