🌞Now that the sun is shining and being outside is fun again, I've switched back to wearing my photochromic lenses full time... The kind that are clear indoors, and darken outside!

The most common and well known brand is , and that's what I'm demoing here with their super dark XTRActive and color versions. These are not the Transitions of yesteryear - they darken quickly and effectively and return to clear within moments indoors. They filter blue light for indoors on computers. The XTRActive will even change inside your car, and can have polarization added as well.

I honestly don't know why I waited so long to try these, bit now that I have them they're a summer essential for me. Do you have lenses that darken outdoors?

Truth be told I never imagined myself as a private practice owner or business person. But nothing else has allowed me to practice to the best of my ability, offer the kind of direct, careful and thoughtful care I want to for every patient, reflect my values so perfectly and give me the flexibility I need to be present as a mom of small kids. I might not have planned this a decade ago but I'm grateful to be here now... And practicing optometry in the same community that I live in has been so rewarding, getting to see patients at T-ball, grocery store and coffee shop is the best!

Myopia control! 🤓✨

Introducing Stellest, the first FDA approved glasses lens for slowing down nearsighted progression in kids. After watching years of success with this lens in Canada and Europe I'm thrilled to now be able to prescribe it here!

The lens is designed with a central clear zone in front of the pupil and the periphery filled with small "aspherical lenslets" which you can see as little dots on the lens in the zoomed in photo (swipe to see!)

These little lenslets make "peripheral vision defocus", which we've known for a long time is a major signal while the eye is growing to stop or slow down growth, similar to the peripheral defocus you'd get from being outdoors all the time with a far horizon of view. And studies show it works - slowing down prescription changes by 67% in full time lens wearers over two years compared to regular glasses wearing children.
