We grow poinsettias from May through November from cuttings, either from our carefully curated stock plant collection, or from young plants rooted at nearby greenhouses. Three growers tend this crop over seven months in our production greenhouses.

Poinsettias are very light sensitive. If the slightest light reaches the plants, they won’t “color up” at the right time. In order to get poinsettia bracts to turn color in time for A Longwood Christmas, they must be kept in the dark and covered by a shade cloth between 6:00 pm and 8:30 am beginning in September.
