My home show, the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival, is this weekend! I'll be teaching several workshops, so this is a great time to come level up tour brioche knitting skills. On Saturday, I'm teaching Building Blocks of a Brioche Sweater where we discuss the special considerations of a garment in this wonderful fabric. We also learn some of the extra techniques that can help in the process, like picking up stitches and short rows.

On Sunday, I'm teaching Color Up Your Brioche Knitting where you will try out a range of techniques to add a third color to your brioche.

Both of these classes are accessible to knitters who can work brioche flat and both still have space! Register today and come learn with me!

Have you struggled with low crafting mojo? I certainly have lately. I was hoping that attending fiber festivals this spring would magically fix it. Like mojo was something I could buy if I just looked in the right booth. It doesn't really work that way, but getting to surround myself with amazing fiber community and their beautiful creations helped me feel like it isn't as far away as I thought. Slowly working on getting unstuck...

I'm in need of test knitters for my newest sweater design! This design is knit bottom up, in pieces, with brioche cables covering the back of the sweater. I invite you to knit fearlessly and join the test even if some of the techniques involved are new to you.

The pattern is available in 9 sizes from 30.75in to 68.75in. The design is intended to be fitted at the full bust (recommended ease is -2 to +2 in) and has gentle A-line shaping. The test knit will begin on April 24th and run through August 16th.

The sample is knit in fi*****ng weight yarn from .cat.yarns. Testers are welcome to use the yarn of their choice, but a discount code is available for 10% off for those who would like to use the original yarn.

If you would like to participate, please fill out the application form linked in my bio.

I love creating new stitch motifs like the one used in the Fougasse Hat and Shawlette. One technique that I enjoy using in my designs is using wrong side or purl decreases to close leaf or flower designs and make them look more natural by ending the knit columns (how many leafs have you seen in nature with a string trailing off of the tip?). When working flat, it is easy to use familiar decreases and work them on the wrong side rows. When working on the round, these are replaced with purl decreases to create the same effect. If you have never tried a brioche purl decrease before, you can check out my most recent Reel to see how it is done.

You can get these patterns now on Ravelry and Payhip.

The brp4st dec (brioche purl 4 stitch decrease) is the same basic decrease as the br4st decrease, but worked as a purl rather than a knit, creating a centered decrease on the wrong side of the fabric. I use this stitch most often when taking a stitch pattern with a wrong side decrease and using it for a design worked in the round. This stitch is used in my new Fougasse Hat pattern, as well as the Liana Hat. Check it out on YouTube to see the technique slowed down and hear all of my tips and explanation.

Let's talk about yarn! The Fougasse Hat and Shawlette were knit in DK weight yarn from . Their yarn is plant dyed and the purple is called Aster Purple and the brown is Ancient Oak Brown and it is the undyed wool from the brown sheep in their flock. The yarn is so soft (it is 100% merino) and is a lovely squishy woolen spun that works perfectly with brioche texture. I love working with yarn from small farms and it was such a great bonus to discover their emphasis on regenerative farming practices , as that is something that has been a focus in working with the . Just 4oz of each color is enough to make both the hat and the shawlette!

You can find the patterns for the Fougasse Hat and Fougasse Shawlette on Ravelry and Payhip and the lovely yarn on the Simple Hill Farm website.

I know I'm a day late for , but I'm excited to actually have something new that I'm working on to share! It feels like it has been forever. This design is still going to get a few tweaks, but I'm enjoying finally getting the idea out of the back of my mind and into yarn.
