Throwback Threads Thursday
Does anyone even read these captions? 😅
Well… if you do — and you’re still here — this one’s for you!

Knitting has always been about connection — from handwork to high-tech.
And I’m just grateful to be part of its evolution.

Here’s a peek inside the museum in , Japan — where I first learned about machines. Traditional flat knitting machines use 2 beds, but the first WholeGarment machine introduced 4 needle beds… wild how far we’ve come.

Swipe to the last image —> That’s me inside a giant pink vest made for the 12th ITMA exhibit in Milan, 1995. (Pretty sure I wasn’t supposed to do that…)

Studio Saturdays: Love at First Stitch 😍

This is the —my first love in 3D knitting.
I met her almost 11 years ago .official headquarters in , , and instantly fell under her spell. I studied every part, every movement—nearly fell into the machine trying to learn it all. 😅

Today, she’s still at the heart of what I do: seamless, sculptural, wholegarment knits programmed stitch by stitch.

Throwback Threads Thursday:

I work on machines and design on APEX SDS-ONE, but every stitch still holds so much history… going all the way back to William Lee’s first knitting machine in 1589, created to speed up handwork.

Swipe to see why he did so →

We’ve come a long way from Lee’s hand-cranked frame, but the rhythm of knit and purl—the simple structure of courses and wales—remains unchanged.

Here’s to the makers who came before, and the tech that helps us keep stitching forward. 🧶✨

With so much happening in our community, our hearts are heavy — and still hopeful. 💛

As we continue to stand together for justice and for Fernando, we also believe in holding space for joy, creativity, and connection — especially for our young makers.

That’s why we’re gently sharing our July (4-Week) Knit Camp lineup today. For many, crafting is comfort. It’s healing. And this summer, we welcome campers to explore fiber art as a way to express themselves, build friendships, and feel part of something bigger.

Swipe through to learn more about each week’s project. If now’s not the time for you, we completely understand. If it is, we’d love to knit with you. 💗

✨ For the month of July, 10% of all proceeds will go toward our new donation initiative, “Things We Care About.”

This community-funded program supports:
• Efforts to , our beloved neighbor
• Scholarships for local kids + adults to join our fiber workshops
• Local causes that uplift and unite our community (DM us or tag us with suggestions!)

Because knitting isn’t just about making things — it’s about making things better. 🧶

📢 JOIN US THIS SATURDAY
🗓️ June 21 · 🕙 10:00 AM
📍 Port Washington LIRR Station

We gather to stand in peaceful solidarity for our neighbor Fernando Mejia—detained by ICE outside his workplace on June 12, 2025.

Fernando isn’t just a manager at Schmear—he’s a friend, a father, a smiling face who opens the shop before dawn. He dressed up as Santa and the Easter Bunny just to make kids laugh. He makes Port feel like home.

💬 There is a Fernando in every town…

ICE says “3 in 4 are criminals.”
So we ask: What happens to the 4th?

Fernando is that 4th.
Not a criminal. Not a threat.
Just a beloved member of our community—detained without access to proper medical care for a failing liver.

We respectfully demand:
🗣️ Let Fernando go.

Stand together.
Stand safely.
Stand peacefully.
Most of all—stand out.

🕊️ We need to be heard now—tomorrow may be too late, and is never promised.

📣 UPDATE ON FERNANDO MEJIA
June 16, 2025

We are grateful to Councilwoman for acknowledging our community’s overwhelming support for Fernando Mejia and for her communication with , and Representative . It’s a meaningful first step—but it cannot end there!

We must keep this at the forefront:
Our community will not tolerate ICE disrupting our loving and compassionate community. Fernando is a beloved member of Port Washington, a manager at Schmear for over 10 years, a friend to business owners, and a familiar face who brought joy to so many—whether dressed as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny to delight our children, or simply handing us a coffee with kindness before dawn.

As a resident of Port Washington and someone born and raised on Long Island’s North Shore, I grew up in a community shaped by immigrants from all over the world—Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Israel, South and Central America.
So I ask: How is this any different? Why now? Why him?

Councilwoman Dalimonte, respectfully:
You, who stood beside Fernando, know he is not a threat. You’ve thanked him, even held a check in hand recognizing his service to our town. Why is he now facing deportation?

Our community deserves answers:
— Does Fernando have proper legal representation?
— Has he been arraigned?
— Is there a bond set for his release?
— Is he receiving medication and care for his serious health condition?
— How can our letters, calls, and collective voices be heard by the immigration judge before his hearing?

We’re not asking for special treatment—we’re wanting justice and compassion.

🧡 To our immigrant neighbors:
You are seen. You are valued. You are essential. Port Washington stands with you.

Let’s keep showing up.
For Fernando. For each other. For what’s right.
