The ‘What?’ and ‘Why?’
What am I doing? (A question I’m asking myself more regularly as I embark on a adventure SO FAR OUTSIDE OF MY COMFORT ZONE.) - I’m creating handmade blankets and loveys for all of the beautiful babies and children in each of our lives. While I can’t bring myself to focus on just ONE theme-The Lord has laid it on my heart to begin by making, what I’m calling, “After the Storm” blankets and loveys. These are for those miraculous babies that come after the family has suffered an infant death or a miscarriage. These blankets and Loveys are for the rainbow babies. Why am I doing this? -I’m Paying Homage To My Late Grandmother. She and I (and my brother, at one point) sat around her kitchen table and made my son a blanket. One identical to one his aunt had made for him and given it to him at his baby shower. After a year and a half of chewing on it and taking it everywhere it was time for a new one. This is where all of this originated. My sweet gramma graciously took time to teach me the basics and would talk and laugh with us as we pinned, seem-ripped, and back stitched our way to a finished product. Thinking back on it, I’m pretty sure the first blanket she and I made it took about 5 hours total. BUT we had a replacement for my son’s very well loved favorite blanket. I promise it takes much much less time now. I know that Gramma Rosie would be “tickled pink” if she knew what was to come from our many hours spent sewing together. Side note: The sewing machine I’m using belonged to my world-class gramma. Each piece is stitched with love from multiple generations
-I’m honoring The Lord I hope to not lose you here but I literally can’t share the WHY of this passion project without this part. My husband and I have been somewhere in the middle of not preventing getting pregnant and wanting to get pregnant, for about a year and a half now. (To be very honest, for me, it sometimes depends on the day. I can be content with my 3 person family one day then the next heart aches for another baby.) Having said that, I have faith in 1 Samuel 16:7 that The Lord has seen our hearts and will bless us with another child when it is the perfect time. The Lord did however tell me, that in the mean time, I need to do my part for the families and sow seeds into the families around me, that are rejoicing with their new blessings. So, here I am sewing blankets to sow seeds to honor my Heavenly Father. { I’ll leave this with the inspiration for the name of my page... } “ Here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Don’t give up; don’t be impatient; be entwined as one with the Lord. Be brave and courageous, and never lose hope. Yes, keep on waiting—for he will never disappoint you! “ Psalm 27:14 (The Passion Translation)
