Groundfloor Shoes opened their door on October 1, 1976. 45 years later, Scott DeVillez is still at 206 Broadway fitting comfortable, stylish shoes. Prior to opening, Scott went to New York City, working at the Kalso flagship store in Greenwich Village to learn how to fit shoes. In addition to this training, he took a correspondence course with the National Shoe Retailers Association to become a me

mber of the Professional Shoe Fitters Society. Through the years, he has tried to help all customers have happy feet. And to all of you that have supported Groundfloor Shoes through these 45 years ….

Remember those “SIDEWALK SALES” I used to have..WeLL..I’m having one now…except inside, in the air conditioning….smart move, huh ? ..what you are looking at now..they are all $35…values to ….hmmm you know…..now if something does make it to the SideWalk , in this heat..It’s less..so don’t delay..sizes limited..and time is running short…206 Broadway..DownTown Paducah…hrs. 11-4…pretty much all week until the last week of this month..then I’m just a memory……SeeYaSoon…

Hope I don’t wear you all out….Tuesday / tomorrow ..will find me at work again..🤔..wonder how my head will spin when I lay eyes on the whirlwind I created today..🤔..which brings me to this..A fellow by the name of Van Bevil was our first Downtown Art Curator, if I recall…….He was a member of the Bear Clan and wanted to move back home to the reservation …He couldn’t get this into his VW…it’s 1/2 of a ping-pong table..so we did some trading..Now, it’s too big for my house…a dome doesn’t have a lot of wall space…maybe your house does..if you are interested, come on down..lets talk..bring a friend..it’s heavy..aNd..the Kachina’s you see..are 40% off..got some Sand Paintings too…oh, and shoes…lotsa shoes..and they don’t all fit me..

And so it begins..I’m down at the store and from the looks of things..I’ll be here just about every day..I’m packing things up..and if you came in and purchased something..that would be one less thing I would have to pack up😇…It’s taken all day to clean the jewelry cases…oh, and my Rada knives…25% off…and I found this..the story…Mom jumped into the Oldsmobile that had been sitting in the sun on days like today..she had shorts on.😵‍💫…..Bob Dustin (Dusty)..Carbide—Troop 1— did this for her..😀

Doesn’t seem that long ago when a little shoe store quietly opened their doors on lower Broadway with a strange new shoe called the Kalso Earth Shoe..Hard to phantom..fifty years passed and here we are today…saying “Good-Bye”—-something I’ve been putting off writing..now suddenly, in about 3 weeks ..Groundfloor Shoes will be another Broadway memory..Sept 1st..the new owner will begin a new facet of Downtowne Paducah Progress. They are sorting out the paperwork now and it looks pretty positive. It makes me happy to see someone who cares enough about our Downtown to begin their dreams..I’ve always said that a Town with no Downtown is no town at all..
It has been a wonderful life..my Mother and I have met so many good people from all over the world..made so many friends..and for this..I wish to thank all of you for your support…and hope we’ve helped you some with the different ideas we introduced to the area. Yes..quite enjoyable..

🎄so soon…🎄..it seems..yet here we are..Christmas Eve Day..I’m headed to the shop early..I’ve got a few small stocking stuffers under $10 I’m going to get out…still have a few “Gone With the Wind” collector prints..also some Scratch Art Prints , Jewelry, and Books from our friend Dennison Tsosie - Navajo Silversmith and Shaman …I have shoes from $10 to over $200….If you havn’t been to our shop of 50 years recently (Groundfloor Shoes - 206 Broadway - Downtown Paducah)…this will be your last Christmas to experience a bit of Americanism and Nostalgia of days gone by.. as next year will find me here only on Friday and Saturdays ,for sure , as negotiations continue..and I sift through the memories of a wonderful life………If my Mother was still here..She would agree as I say…Thank You for the support You have given to us, we have met many wonderful people and forged many friendships..Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and in the immortal words of Red Skelton “God Bless and Good Night”
