Not in business. Not in life.

There’s something powerful about having someone close enough to see your blind spots and gentle enough to help you name them. Someone you can talk to when the wins feel confusing, the setbacks feel personal, and the decisions feel heavy. Someone who doesn’t just cheer you on, but asks the right questions. The kind that slow you down and move you forward at the same time.

Along the way, meeting and learning from so many business owners and leaders has shaped how I show up and how I build. Each conversation, insight, and example of leadership added another layer to my growth and understanding of this business. Their experiences, generosity, and willingness to share what they’ve learned made the path clearer and the lessons deeper.

Mentorship isn’t about having all the answers handed to you. It’s about having a steady mirror. A place to process, recalibrate, and grow without judgment. It’s knowing you don’t have to perform strength—you’re allowed to be honest there.

Stepped into something special this week. As someone who lives and breathes cashmere, I’ve always believed real designers can recognize great craftsmanship no matter whose label is on it. And Katherine Hooker’s work? Next-level. 🔥

I had the chance to meet Katherine in person — a master of structure, tailoring, and heritage wool. Her line is known for its womenswear silhouettes, but she took on the challenge of creating a custom, made-to-measure jacket for me… officially her first unisex piece. And let me tell you — the fit, the construction, the fabric… it hits. Hard. 🖤

Even when we’re all in the same space, working with similar materials, there’s something powerful about appreciating another designer’s vision. The jacket feels like a blend of British precision and modern edge — a piece you don’t just wear, you keep.

Looking ahead, I can see something exciting taking shape — the start of a potential brand partnership for Summer 2026 in the Hamptons, maybe even a debut moment at our new Bridgehampton location as a season kickoff. Nothing official yet… but the energy feels right.

Thanksgiving feels different this year. As founder of
James Paul Cheung, I’ve spent the last 12 months watching a dream come back to life — stronger, more determined, and more rooted in community.

Before COVID, we had three locations. During the pandemic, we closed two. But we never gave up. We rebuilt, refocused, and reimagined what retail could look like.

This year, we launched something new: Gathering Marketplace — a space born from sweat, tears, love, and vision. A home for emerging entrepreneurs, makers, and artisans who needed a place in the Hamptons. Part-storefront, part-community, part-hope. ✨

Someone once told me, “Growth is uncomfortable because you’ve never been this version of you.” This year has been exactly that — uncertain, humbling, meaningful, and full of lessons.

At the same time, James Paul Cheung continued its commitment to giving back, partnering with 45+ charities nationwide. Because small businesses grow through community — and communities grow stronger when we invest back into the programs and people who need it most. 💛

To our artisans, brand partners, advisers, leadership team, and the East Hampton and beyond community: thank you for helping us build a more purposeful version of who we are.

And today, I’m grateful to share that we’ll be opening our second retail location in Bridgehampton in 2026. This is only possible because of you.
