This unusual-looking piece is actually an old butter churn. It certainly doesn’t look like the traditional churn most of us picture.

Antique wooden box butter churn, probably from the late 1800s or early 1900s. The side crank turned paddles inside the box, agitating cream until it separated into butter and buttermilk.

It’s sometimes called a table-style butter churn or crank butter churn
