Sometimes the quilt is just too beautiful and in too good of condition to become a quilt coat yet. One of these beauties was a gift and the other I thrifted, but for now they are both on our bed. I love a home that has memories, is collected, has character, and tells stories.

I was listening to Brene Brown and Adam Grant’s podcast, The Curosity Shop. They were discussing work sludge and how much worse it has gotten with AI generated writing. They were discussing that so few people have good writing skills. AI writing is attractive to them because it sounds professional and that is more important to them than the content of the writing. I stopped in my tracks at that thought. I want my students to leave my classroom knowing they are able to express their thoughts with the written word.

Later, they quoted “How do I know what I think until I see what I write?” I firmly believe in the healing power of writing. I believe in the clarity of thoughts that are drafted, revised, and rewritten. Writing is a deeply beautiful and human activity. I want to keep my students in the beauty of exploring their humanity and communing with others humanity through their writing. Writing is a way to trap our thoughts, crystallized for all of time.
