Thank you for choosing Julie's. As a courtesy and per the law, please park in handicapped accessible spaces only if you have a placard or license plate that allows you to do so. We know our lot is small. We have only two spaces behind the shop for our customers with mobility issues. These paved spaces allow them to safely access our ramp easily, leading to our front door. In the rare instances that we are extremely busy and both front and back lots are full, please park along the street on Kennington. Thank you for your understanding and helping us accommodate all of our patrons!

Happy Birthday to the U.S. Marine Corps! Thank you to all those who serve/served under the Corps.

Here's your five facts about it:

1. The youngest a person can be to join is 17, with a guardian's permission. Oldest? Twenty-eight.

2. Marines are fondly known as Jarheads (Supposedly the origin is because of the high and tight haircut.), Leathernecks (Old uniforms had a stiff piece of leather in the neck. Go figure.), and Devil Dogs (Given by German soldiers at The Battle of Belleau Woods. "Teufel Hunden")

3. Marine Navajo Code Talkers helped secure the victory over Japan during WWII. They created an unbreakable code based on the complex Navajo language.

4. Toys for Tots was created by reservist Major Bill Hendricks in 1947, who was inspired by his wife Diane. It has collected over 500 million toys since its founding.

5.There is a specific order cake is served on the Marine Corps birthday. The first piece is given to the guest of honor, followed by the oldest Marine present, and then the youngest present Marine gets the third piece. After that, it's a free for all.

Happy Birthday to our U.S. Navy. We appreciate all the service people who have served in its 248 years of existence!

Here's Five Facts about our Navy:

1. Who is the Father of the U.S Navy? It's been attributed to John Paul Jones, John Barry, John Adams, and George Washington. During the American Revolutionary War, Washington as the Commander in Chief of the Army designated a small flotilla of fishing schooners as warships to defend against British forces, with the USS Hannah being the founding vessel of our Navy

2. First Admiral David Farragut was a Civil War hero fighting as a Union Soldier. He joined the Navy at nine years old, was 12 years old during the War of 1812, and served until his death at 69 years old. He was a pallbearer for President Lincoln.

3. The Navy was dissolved after the Revolutionary War in 1785 and was revived in 1794 because U.S. merchant ships were being attacked by pirates. Its official birthday is recognized as October 13, 1775

4. Submariners are volunteers who have to pass rigorous psychological and physical tests! Being on a submarine is not for the claustrophobic especially since you can be submerged for months at a time.

5. Who are some of our famous Navy personnel? Six presidents including JFK and Jimmy Carter, who was a submariner, served. Famous astronaut Neil Armstrong was first in the Navy before being first on the moon. Bob Barker called the Navy home before finding his place in our homes as The Price is Right host.
