February 2026, it was confirmed that Round 2, LLC, a die-cast and model kit company, announced its intent to acquire Lionel, LLC. The two companies plan to merge into a new entity called Lionel Brands Group.

Details of the Acquisition:
The Buyer: Round 2 is well-known in the collectibles market for brands such as AMT, Johnny Lightning, Racing Champions, and Polar Lights.
The Assets: The deal includes both the legendary Lionel Trains division and Lionel Racing, which holds the exclusive license for NASCAR die-cast production.
Operations: For the near term, the companies have stated it is "business as usual," with a focus on maintaining continuity for existing programs and supporting their combined "strong legacies".
Brand Future: All of Round 2's existing brands are expected to fall under the new Lionel Brands Group banner, potentially expanding the reach of the Lionel name across more hobby categories.

Before this merger, Lionel had already been heavily involved in the die-cast industry since 2010 through its own Lionel Racing division, which it fully acquired in 2013.
