🇫🇷 A Trusted Friend In Paris “Guide to Fiore de Chatou”
Bonjour friends.
If you have been “bitten” by the love and appreciation of antiquities and historical treasures as I have, this is one event you may want to put on your “must do calendar”! Fiore de Chatou is a semi annual 10 day fair, September and April.
Come brocante with me next weekend at Fiore de Chatou…you never quite know what treasure is awaiting just around the corner! September 25-October 4 are the dates for this year’s autumn event!
Chatou is a semi annual event where professional antique dealers, brocanteurs, and art galleries offer their treasures for sale! This fair is known for authenticity and quality merchandise, some available for complimentary appraisals!
From beautiful furniture, 1800’s paintings, silver, ceramics, textiles and garden pieces, some of which will make you stop and say, “I have no idea what this is but I can’t leave here without it”!
The above photos I have shared are from my own adventures from previous fairs giving you a very small sampling from over 300 vendors that await you. The rows of white tents are the perfect visual for what Chatou actually looks like.
Wandering, looking, touching, meeting people and asking questions about the items these vendors are selling is the ideal opportunity to hear stories and history behind these treasures!
The gentleman repairing the rug is a perfect example of craftsmanship, restoration, and giving old things another life! There is something very special and French to me about seeing a piece of history being carefully repaired rather than simply discarded or replaced!
Giving yourself permission to spend an hour looking at something you never knew existed, talking to the vendors as they are willing to share how they sourced their items and the history behind these treasures is such an invaluable experience and integral part of the time spent at Chatou!
No successful day shopping would be complete without taking a break to rest and replenish with a glass of ch*****ne and wonderful little French food discoveries along the way! The Foie Gras sign is just one example that awaits you!
My advice? Don’t go to Chatou with a shopping list, wander, look closely, talk to the vendors, have something delicious to eat, and needless to say as many Euros as you can afford to budget…you never know what will happen as you find/experience something wonderful along the way!
Until next week…
See you soon!
