One of my favorite things about bringing the Color Catalogue back is that we get to dig out our favorite photos of our favorite garments that we have dyed.

This cotton dress dyed in Pinot snagged our hearts. When my mother in law Hilary (who by the way is a British, zero waste, natural fiber loving, bee keeper and gardener) asked me to dye a cream dress from the back of her closet, I was over the moon.

Studio Show June 6th at the dyehouse!

This week, preparing for my studio show with made me feel like I am right where I am supposed to be. A decade ago, I was leaving New York to embark on a 5 week long trip for an artist residency. It was my last 'adventure' before coming home to dedicate myself full time to building Green Matters (which as in my mom's backyard at the time).

Building this dyehouse/studio turned out to be the real adventure. I thought that I would 'not have time' to continue to paint, that my life would be completely dedicated to building a commercial scale dyehouse. At first that was true. But as time went on, and the dyehouse grew, there were these small moments of creativity that emerged. One of them was realizing that our dye waste could be turned into pigments, turned into paint. Another was falling in love with accidental stains in the studio, and realizing that not all painting is done with a brush.

In 2019, I dyed fabric to make a dress, only to find myself unable to cut into the beautiful print I had created, and instead stretching it over a canvas. By 2021, I had built a closet to store my paintings. By the end of 2025, I realized that I had created nearly 100 plant based paintings, and virtually no one had seen them.

I never imagined that trying to build a factory would lead me back to where I started, painting because I had something to say with color rather than words.

Join us this Saturday for a celebration of color, plants and friendship.

Got caught in the rain during my weekly cafe 'sit'. This is when I sit on the patio of my favorite coffee shop and have screen free time to let the thoughts flow.

Moss, one of our three May Dyelots is available through Sunday.

As we wrap this month, we are seeing that Clay, Coffee Bean and Moss were some of our top selling colors so far this year. Picking the colors we offer each month is a challenge. What we noticed about this palette was that all three colors are quintessential natural dye: colors that look like the earth.

What I wore to work:

Last week I leaned into my 'safe' colors. I was not feeling great (recovering from a stomach bug), which meant that not a lot of thinking went into getting dressed.

Past me had eliminated a few decisions for myself on days like this. By having color themes in my wardrobe, any 'easy' garment I reached for paired well with another 'easy' garment.

1. Cotton jumpsuit in light indigo
2. Wolhide crewneck in dark indigo (I have had this for 8 years) with Four Objects pants in Coffee Bean.
3. Natural Black LL Bean chamois shirt, with a silk camisole in Natural Black, and a pants repeat from look 2.

Build your uniform and never think about getting dressed again.

We love when a made in America branded garment is sent in by a customer to be redyed. This jacket was dyed in our Natural Black service.

Natural Black, unlike our Dyelot of the Month is one of the dyelots that is available year round.

Aren't those stitching details special?
