The Philadelphia MOVE Bombing of 1985 is one of the most infamous moments in the city’s storied history. MOVE, a Philadelphia based organization revolving around lifestyle returning to nature as well as advocating for improved race relations for African-Americans. This led to tensions between MOVE and their West Philly neighbors and the Philadelphia police, which included a notorious 1978 shootout in Powelton Village that ended with a police officer dying in the crossfire. Over the years frictions did not ease and ultimately culminated with the events of May 13th 1985. Mayor Wilson Goode sent police officers to the MOVE household on Osage Avenue, which MOVE members refused to respond to. After failing to evacuate the MOVE members with tear gas inside the home, this eventually led to Mayor Goode approving a Philadelphia police helicopter to drop C4 charges on the home itself.

This bombing killed six adult MOVE members and five children and destroyed over 60 homes in the surrounding area, leaving over 250 Philadelphians homeless. This ultimately gave Philadelphia the dishonor of carrying out the only aerial bombing against US citizens on US soil. Nobody involved was prosecuted. Mayor Goode won reelection in 1987.

The Egyptian King. Not sure I’ll ever see a player I adore more wear the Liverpool shirt. 9 years in a row scoring on opening day. Feels wrong not seeing him in red this campaign.
