I was planning on listing a limited edition batch of one of a kind handmade hoodies by Jenny with up cycled and eco-friendly fibers. So,
as you know,
I like thinking about eco friendly textiles
Which led me to thinking about dyes as well.
I have a short dream film that I made on display at as part of the show curated by
The film was included because I made all the costumes so that’s the fiber connection. (I also wrote, directed, performed and made the soundtrack for it)
BUT back to textiles;
The opening was nice, I got to meet a bunch of artists who work in various aspects & techniques. As a maker I enjoy seeing different approaches and expressions.
It was hot so we took a break and hung out in Bonnie’s studio for a while, she hosts workshops on natural dyes (2 coming up this weekend! check her page to register & if this weekend is too soon she teaches workshops fairly regularly so follow her) she gave us a quick introduction and explained what colors come from what plants, bugs etc. So interesting!
The show is up to the 28th so check it out!
It was a nice way to reconnect with Bonnie- we met years ago when I was serving drinks at a fiber show opening & we joked about how I should be in the show not catering it 😂 So it’s great to see that after all this time she pulled together her own! Epic! Congrats! I know running shows with lots of artists can be exhausting so I’m glad she took the effort to do so, it really pulled a creative community together & she said of all the shows there, hers had the best turnout! So that’s the upside of including lots of artists. Well done Bonnie! And thanks for the crash course in natural dyes! 🎨
I want to make some prototypes and play with some of those colors & techniques! My eyes were like whaaaaatttttttt?!?! 😍🤩!
Like that spun sparkle yarn is beautiful!

Wearing a eco friendly eucalyptus racer back tank with some of my 2nd short finds.
I started normally posed but decided to dance a little bit… it’s better for the spirit 💚
This tank is part of the eco friendly basics collection, a prototype. It’s good for me to see how the fabric wears.
Before I was making the pieces myself and selling them… that’s not sustainable for me, (maybe you noticed the Etsy shop was closed)
The new plan is to look for stores looking to take orders so that I can have them manufactured elsewhere and in bulk. Many of the prototypes I make are examples for both the buyers and manufacturers to see.
Though, since not everything that I make as a prototype will become part of the production line I do plan on having occasional sales of prototypes. This will help me clear my studio and give me a little $ to invest further into the future of this label. I also have a series of one of a kind pieces made with vintage and upcycled textiles, I will be selling for designer prices to help raise funds for expansion… maybe they’ll become collectors items since my hands won’t be sewing everything in the future and they are one of a kind… sometimes I think about the great designers who never sewed and I’m like ¡🤯! Must be nice
A reminder that you *don’t* have to do it all… it was a good way to launch myself but it’s gotta change 🌻

Watching the smoke roll in
In during a trip of inspiration; June in NYC;
A trip for some art and design inspiration. I went to see the exhibit at there was some Van Gogh too ✨💚
I usually keep up on the news, I took a mental health break for a few days and I missed the smoke warning ⚠️
I’d like to point out - thanks for the early warning in grade school about global warming, I’m glad that I learned about it… (hooray for science club!) From then until now I’ve been wondering how so many folks in politics, globally, have not taken seriously the science observed…
I pondered lots of questions as the smoke rolled in;
Like
What good is capitalism if profits are more important than protecting the most sacred thing that lets us all live so we can waste energy doing silly things like debating religion?
Or overfishing,
or…
what’s for lunch tomorrow?

And when are we going to tax the 1% so that we can be more prepared for the challenges ahead?

Is anyone in charge thinking ahead?!

Nature is everything.
Pay attention.
This is a warning⚠️🌎

And for those who experienced 9/11 seeing this smoke roll in was triggering

It’s moments like these that remind me why being mindful about consumption is important.

In moments like these it’s also important to not let it get you too down… posing in front of the ’good luck spot’ sign coming out as ‘good luck pot’ gave me an intermission of humor during this odd moment. Hello!
I’ve been making prototypes and testing them out;
like this eucalyptus knit slip dress.
If you know my other fashion work .l.maas maybe you remember the wave dresses, this mini dress was first created to be worn as the liner for a wave gown. So simple that it can be dressed up or a nightgown, maybe both, you decide!
I like testing my designs so that I can see how they wear, and how it holds up… it’s all good information for future designs!
I’ve been working on a music project lately but I promise once it’s done I’ll be pivoting more of my time back to this business 💚
