As the year comes to a close I have met so many people who remember our family's business. The memories of visiting one of our four Center City locations and their favorite purchase let me know that we accomplished providing good merchandise at fair prices with genuine customer service. On behalf of all who worked with us and our generations of loyal customers I thank you. A special shout out to the customers I had the pleasure to know and chat with. Does anyone remember this ad format from the Sunday Inquirer through the '80's?? Charlie Goldberg worked with the department managers to select weekly sale items. I can't believe that we glued tiny pieces of line art in each block. A courier picked up the ad and returned a few days later with a proof to which we made corrections and sent it back again. I still have the art file cabinet filled with memories.
Thanks for being loyal customers and remembering our family business.

Howard Solomon was a valued and dedicated member of I. Goldberg. He started in the late 1970's as a sales associate. He worked hard, took on more responsibilities, and continued to learn and contribute to the company. He stayed with us helping to close the business after we closed the store in 2019. There wasn't anything Howard couldn't or wouldn't do and the business wouldn't have lasted 100 years without him.
This post barely does him justice. I know generations of customers and staff members had the pleasure of knowing him and would want to know that he recently lost his battle with heart disease. He was blessed to have a heart transplant in 2005 and lived almost 17 years with his "Newheart." He will be dearly missed and I have lost a very close friend. He was the last person who shared the I. Goldberg memories that I have. My thoughts are with his twin sister Susan and her husband Stan and his daughter Nicole and her fiance Brandi. Also, his many family members, friends and those whose lives he touched.
He will always hold a place in my heart.

After 100 years in business we have made the difficult choice to close our business. This has been an emotional decision for us as we have shared so many years servicing the people of Philadelphia as well as the World.
To our customers, we thank you for your loyalty and support throughout the years in making I Goldberg Army & Navy a successful family business which spanned three generations.
We would also like to thank our loyal staff as well as all the employees we have had over these many years. Your hard work and effort have been the backbone of the business.
