This playful, sculptural ceramic jar is a standout example of late-20th-century postmodern design. Created with an octahedron geometric base and topped with a removable pyramid-shaped lid, the piece balances angular form with expressive surface treatment. The glaze features an iridescent, mother-of-pearl sheen that shifts softly in the light, layered over a whimsical brushstroke resist pattern. Beneath the pearlescent surface, a matte bisque under-layer emerges, creating a striking contrast between texture and gloss.

Marked Gator Mold Co. and designed by D. Rakak in 1990, this jar reflects the era’s embrace of bold forms, experimental finishes, and pop-art sensibility. The pink iridescence and graphic patterning feel distinctly rooted in the late ’80s–’90s, where functional objects were elevated into expressive, almost architectural artworks.

Versatile in use, this piece works beautifully as a functional sculpture, planter, catchall container, vase, cookie jar, or distinctive storage vessel. A truly unique object for collectors of postmodern ceramics, studio design, and anyone drawn to the playful edge of 80s/90s decorative art.

$60. DM to claim.
