now that kwg opened her birthday presents, i've posted some new j walker products on our site.

first up is this cardigan- another staple of ours- from linen, to french terry, and now this boucle deadstock- we wear these year round.

it's available in 3 lengths, with or without pockets. currently available in the following fabrics:
black boucle (pictured)- this is a USA milled cotton, black with white speckles
cream sherpa- also USA made, this is a cotton/poly blend. i am really picky about these fleece type fabrics and this one passes muster for sure.
Grey french terry (think of a cotton sweatshirt material)
Rust french terry

All the fabrics have been pre washed and dried. They are ethically sourced and I have chosen them because I believe they are worthwhile.

hello πŸ‘‹πŸ» popping in for what's become a rare IG post to share a few updates:

those of you who live nearby the passyunk ave store may have noticed that this weekend we are officially passing the torch to .co . kristina worked with us at miss d cape may, attended fashion school in Philly, has her own jewellery line, and got her professional start at anthro. we are so happy to welcome her into our beloved old butcher shop, and excited to see her carve out her space on the ave. if you love our shop, you're sure to love hers too.

in march of 2020, the pandemic pushed us online, and with that push, many doors swung open. we have had our busiest year yet online and at west end (all thanks to Kate's work and eye), and not working full time in the shop has allowed me (Julia) to explore some professional and personal opportunities that I'd just never had the mental space to jump on.

After a whirlwind spring and summer, we've made a small online shop update, as well as important improvements to our sewing studio set-up. If you've been wanting to order a box top or dress, please get in touch to talk about fabric options and other customizations.

We miss the chats, but are so thankful for the ability to keep a piece of miss d online and in west end, while also pursuing other projects (like finally getting that bachelor's degree πŸ˜¬πŸ“šπŸ€“).

xoxo,

i'm so happy to be included in portrait series. i'm also incredibly thankful to live in a neighborhood that recognizes the role small business plays in our quality of life, and recognizes the humanity of the people who own and work in the shops. i understand that for a few years now it has been easier to click a button and have a new outfit show up at your door, and in spite of that you've chosen to come in and spend some time perusing and chatting with me.

east passyunk avenue has always been a business corridor, full of useful and quirky shops and restaurants, but it's the blocks and neighborhoods we cut through that make it all work. thank you for choosing to live here, thank you for your support even when the threat of the pandemic (and let's be honest, Amazon) is looming ever larger.

if you've been following along, you know we've switched primarily to a made to order model while we weather this storm. our website will be stocked with some favorite essential items (baggu/nikibiki/bra30) and we will have fresh fabrics every couple months for those of you who would like to invest in a piece of handmade clothing.

xoxo,
K+j

this linen gets softer with each wash, and is sure to become one of your favorites. this is a custom v neck box top. i'm making everything to order this summer, so can happily customize hem and necklines!

you guys, letting you choose your own fabrics is amazing! when stocking the shop i usually made at least 4 of each style, so i had to make choices based on the amount of fabric i had available or what i was sure would sell. collaborating with you means much less waste and more control for both of us. this 90s stripe box dress turned out so well, and i'm not sure i would have tried it in a traditional retail setting.

hooray! i'm back in the city and firming up my operating plans for the next few weeks. i haven't settled on an exact schedule yet, but our collective health and safety is much more important to me than going "back to normal". our intention is to find a schedule that allows me to balance our huge jump in web sales (πŸ’ƒ) and the convenience/safety of our regular customers. in the meantime, i'm getting my production set up today, and i can now happily offer contactless pick-up/drop off for local orders.

so happy to see your (masked) faces again! 🌼

box tops on the cutting table today βœ‚οΈ

when I became serious about sewing a little over five years ago, i knew it would be gratifying and allow me to offer something special for my customers- but i never realized that this skill would save my business in a global pandemic. being able to produce masks and garments in house has meant that i am not dependent upon a complex, distant supply chain. it also allows us to only produce what is currently selling- eliminating part of the guess work and risk inherent to retail.

i enhanced my skills through a series of courses at , but i am not the first in my family- not even the first Julia in my family- to sew for a living. In the early 1900s, my great great grandmother Giulia ran her sewing and trimming shop in Italy while her husband and older children scouted out new opportunities in south philadelphia.
