The lone surviving millinery in Philadelphia throughout this period in history was S&S Hat Company on North 12th Street. American Hats LLC, purchased S&S hat factory, which has a rich history that dates back to 1923. In that year S&S Hats began selling hats to department stores and small boutiques. S&S designed and manufactured everything from respectable church-going hats with beads, feathers and ribbons to basic straw hats to groovy leopard print hats. S&S also did business with large stores like Strawbridge’s, the May Company and J.C. Much like the S&S of old, American Hats LLC was created with the same idea and goal in mind.
