The print Calico comes from the word Calcutta. The first cotton prints in America were called calicoes and were made in around 1780. They were named Calico, after the city of Calcutta, India, where these handwoven printed fabrics were made.
Calico is a plain-woven, unbleached, and often undyed 100% cotton textile with a slightly coarse, natural texture.
