Jean-Baptiste had a difficult childhood, losing his mother as a toddler and left behind in Haiti to the care of family and friends when his father moved to America. While in high school Prajje attended a class at Massachusetts College of Art and Design and found his calling in fashion. Soon he was Boston designer Andrea Alexander ‘s assistant, helping with everything from sewing to organizing sho
ws. He produced his first solo show as a high-school sophomore. Prajje graduated from Mass Art in 2009 with a degree in Fashion Design. His creativity and determination earned him Boston’s “Style It Up Designer of the Year 2010” award, and in 2011 Prajje was selected to present his spring/summer 2012 collection at New York Fashion Week by Celebrity Top Chef Marcus Samuelsson. Prajje’s collections were soon presented in fashion shows in Miami, Washington, D.C., Boston and New York. In 2012, Prajje moved his business to New York City where he took his work to new heights. In the US, but also in Europe and Africa, where he showed in Nigeria at the 2012 Arise Magazine Fashion week, people are taking note of the young designer. His luxury clothes are worn by some of the most beautiful and powerful people worldwide. His clientele includes Lara Spencer from Good Morning America; Sara Underwood, Fox 25 anchor; Sunny Huston, CNN anchor; model Maya Gaile Haile, spouse of celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson; supermodel Alek Wek; Manouschka Guerrier, private chef of Beverly Hills; Saran Kaban Jones, founder of FACE Africa; and singer and record publisher Wyclef Jean. Prajje 1983 is featured in prestigious publications and TV programs, such as ELLEMagazine, the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, Good Morning America and All on the Line.
