Some never-before-seen photos of our time with Alvin Ulrich last month! We spent a collective 30 hours in our processing studio carting 20+ samples of fiber flax varieties.

We are so inspired by experts in the international community, and we are honored to be joining them on this flax journey. We are full of hope with this successful season as we enter the next phase of establishing this industry in our state for the benefit of our farmers, our worker owners, our community and the planet.

The Square Yard Project is an inclusive community art and education project designed around growing and processing flax for linen. Participants grow fiber flax in a 36" x 36" (or larger) plot of land under our guidance, and as a result become a part of a larger community of folks striving to reestablish the fiber flax industry in the United States.

Fiber flax in our region has been harvested and retted, so we asked our Square Yard Project participants to send us photos of their haul. If your plot is in here, but you are not tagged, reach out and we will tag you!

We love our friends over at Truelove Seeds!

Truelove Seeds is a farm-based seed company offering culturally important and openly pollinated vegetable, herb, and flower seeds. This year marks the fourth year of our partnership to test and increase different open source varieties of fiber flax seed. When we began the seed trials, there were 68 varieties. We have whittled it down to 6 so far, and plan to continue narrowing it down even further!

Since there are no commercially available fiber flax seed in our region, we need to work together to discover which seed variety performs best in our climate, soil, etc. Additionally, having those seeds available to us will increase our resilience and profitability.

We are proud to announce our 2025-26 Agriculture Innovation Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture !

This regional impact award will support the purchase of key pieces of equipment to support our agricultural scale. We are grateful for this significant investment in our work by the PA Department of Agriculture as we plan for our 2027 growing season.

We have been doing seed trials with College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, and it's time to harvest!

Next Wednesday, August 12th from 10:30am - 1pm, the Pennsylvania Flax Project will be harvesting 4 varieties of fiber flax planted over 5 acres of land. This will be a great opportunity to discuss the reemerging flax to linen industry in the United States with members of our team as well as Cornell's, and see firsthand how specialized flax harvesting equipment works.

If you are in the area, you won't want to miss it! Get tickets here: https://agritechevents3.securepayments.cardpointe.com/pay

This event is outdoors, so please wear close-toed shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and bring your own sunscreen and bug spray.
