November 30th, general unit, public land mule deer. It can take lots of patience and sorting through smaller deer to find a mature deer in the general season. But I t’s all worth it when it finally comes together!

This bull is the hardest earned animal I’ve ever taken. I spent over fourteen days since opener chasing elk that would barely talk at all and opportunities being few and far between.

I stepped foot into an area I’d never been to before and quickly lost confidence in the country. Then this bull started bugling back and forth with another on the next ridge. I was able to get inside of 400 yards before jumping into the calling that was going on and upping the energy. With the most aggressive calling I’ve ever made at an elk and gotten away with, this bull literally ran into 15 yards and gave me a shot.

Eight hunting days with no real opportunity and thinking I made a mistake by leaving the (quite) elk I was in to find other elk, to screaming bulls getting a shot in an hour flat.. What a rodeo of a hunt.

As per usual, I had for the packout support!

Believe it or not, I actually lost my grouse arrow and whacked a bag limit of them with a trekking pole! Fresh meat in camp is a welcome way to break up the diet of bars, jerky, and freeze dried meals (although… doesn’t ever really get old).
