1964 Kay K 5915 Semi-Hollow Body Electric Bass 🔥
Kay, generally regarded as the second commercially successful electric bass guitar maker, emerged in 1952, swiftly following Fender’s success. At that time, Kay dominated the commercial market with their upright basses. The Fender Precision Bass likely posed a significant threat to Kay’s position. In response, Kay introduced a unique design featuring a shorter and thinner neck on a hollow cutaway guitar body. This hasty decision resulted in a distinct playing experience and instrument compared to the Fender. In many ways, the Kay Electric bass was equally influential, serving as the direct ancestor of all acoustic/electric hollow body bass guitars. It also introduced the prevalent 30” short scale, which is shared by many of its descendants.
