On Saturday, we gathered together to celebrate the incredible life of Adele Morelli. The Greer Cabaret Lounge and Theater were filled to the brim with family, friends, clients, and neighbors who had been touched by this tremendous spirit.

We heard from family, friends, and community leaders who spoke to the indelible mark she left on the people who she came into contact with, offered stories about the light that she shared with all she met, and what big shoes we now have to fill.

A remarkable moment at the end of the celebration of her life so well led brought everyone who was wearing something from the shoppe up onto the stage for a group photo. The stage could not fit us all.

Adele commented in a post a few weeks before she died that she was so lucky to have a community who would show up to support her, wearing clothes from the boutique to cheer her on.

We think she would have been overwhelmed with this celebration, and this entire afternoon.

If you have any stories or photos you wish to share, please do send DMs through to this page. While we might be a little slow to respond, we'll collect and share moments as best we can.

We will also share information here about a Legacy Fund in support of what mattered the most to her as soon as full details are available.

Much gratitude to the staff at the Greer, the production support, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, and everyone who lent a hand to make yesterday so special.

Thank you for coming, sharing stories, and being a part of a party that Adele would have been so pi**ed to have missed.

We hope to see you at Adele's Celebration of Life tomorrow, Saturday, October 26 at the Greer Cabaret Theater on Penn Avenue, from 2-5pm. ALL are welcome. Please share this information with anyone who may wish to join us.

2-4pm: Light food & drink in the Lounge
4-5pm: Remarks in the Theater

We also hope to take a photo of everyone in their pieces from the Boutique--so please, don your favorite pieces!

We look forward to gathering with you for laughter, tears, and community in celebration of Adele's beautiful spirit.

As you enter, you will find an Aofrenda -- a beautiful, interactive art installation that is a part of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's Día de los Mu***os celebration. It is a vibrant display created to honor and remember deceased loved ones, and has taken on some special meaning at this time. The Trust invites you to engage with and contribute to the offering. If you would like to bring a memory of Adele--or any of your loved ones--we hope you will consider interacting with this community designed space on your way in.

We invite you to gather with family and friends to celebrate the incredible life of Adele on Saturday, October 26, from 2-5 PM at the Greer Cabaret Theater (655 Penn Ave). All are welcome, with remarks at 4 PM. Light food and drink will be available. Please wear your favorite BLP pieces as we honor Adele’s beautiful spirit together.

We wish to thank The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership for their incredible support in making this space that Adele spent a lot of time in available for this celebration.

In the wake of Adele Morelli's passing, it is with great sadness that we announce the closing of Boutique La Passerelle.

Our final in-store shopping days will be Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12, 11am - 5pm. Everything in-store will be 50% off. Some beautiful pieces from Paris that just came in are still available.

I was super excited when Effie's Heart made some accessories to go with their collection. I’m really digging the East End Gloves because they suit the style of this vintage look to a tee. The Leonora Pullover Sweater pulls the North Sea blue from the Hiking Skirt and the gloves make that cayenne color pop.

True story (keep scrolling if you’ve heard this one before 😂 ):

When I bought Boutique La Passerelle from Cidalia in 2013, I assumed the name was in Portuguese since she is from Portugal and went to Portugal to buy her inventory. She only told me it meant “runway” and I never bothered to look it up because I had my hands full learning everything else about the business. I remember thinking it sounded/looked like French (thanks to my 4 years of high school and university French classes), but didn’t know much about Portuguese, so I went on my merry way.

TWO YEARS LATER, a French artist living in Pittsburgh (pictured) found her way to the boutique. She was working on a series of paintings of the bridges of Pittsburgh and wanted to do an exhibit at BLP. She asked if I knew what the name meant, and I told her it was Portuguese for Boutique of the Runway. She just smiled and told me it was French for footbridge, or loosely translated into runway. Who knew?!

After that everything became clear. Google translate now tells me it means footbridge in French, and catwalk in Portuguese. And then there is this sign in Paris as I was walking along the Seine...

If you’re confused by all of this, no worries, just call it BLP for short. 😉

As an importer of European clothing, all the talk of tariffs really hits home. It was one of the most complicated things I had to learn when I bought the business. The U.S. tariff schedule is a beast of a document and finding the exact line item for the clothing I buy can be challenging. Bottom line is I pay the tariff to the U.S. government to get the clothing into the country and then add it into the price that I charge for the clothing.

I might be revealing a trade secret but thought you should know the truth: increased tariff for me = increased cost for you.

All that said, I found some pretty French dresses at Fifilles de Paris yesterday and they’ll be on their way to you today!

It’s a two-post day because I have to share this very special anniversary of the first big decision I made at BLP. In 2013 a salesman talked me into the larger quantity of bags and boxes to get a lower price. They dropped them on the curb and walked away! Änna and I were left to get them in the door and stored. I had to have a room built in the basement to store them all. I just ran out of bags last year and boxes this month.

Good or bad decision? Who knows..but it’s a really good story!
