Under His Wings Thrift Shop has gently-used clothes at super low prices. Our Baby Pantry provides "Baby Basics" to families on WIC.

Parents needing baby items can visit the pantry during its open hours. They will need to fill out a form on their first visit validating their need. In the months after that, they only need to come and get what they need.

Another day comes to an end. Busy day at Under His Wings sorting all the wonderful donations we received. Plus I had to go shopping for the food pantry today. Our Celebration Day for Tuesday is:

“Pink Flamingo Day” - Flamingos generally pair off with a single mate and stick with that pairing rather than constantly switching partners. Each pair typically raises just one chick a year, investing heavily in that single egg. That kind of long-term commitment is unusual among birds and adds a softer layer to an otherwise flashy reputation. Despite their lanky legs and top-heavy build, flamingos can cover ground at speeds most people wouldn’t expect from a wading bird. Some have been recorded moving at roughly 35 miles per hour when startled or chasing off a rival. Flamingos rarely wander off on their own, sticking instead to large gatherings that can number in the thousands.

“National Pecan Sandies Day” - this food holiday is all about the buttery, crumbly cookie made with pecans and a shortbread- like texture. The word “sandy” fits the cookies texture and pale golden color, and it also echos the French word “sable”, often used for crumbly butter cookies. Pecans give the cookie its American character, adding a rich nutty flavor to a simple dough flour, sugar, fat and flavoring.

Good evening from Under His Wings. We hope all the Fathers had an awesome day. Just a slight headache today, the cooler weather helped. I did manage to bake 5 dozen cranberry muffins and cooked a nice dinner for my husband. Our Celebration Day for Monday is:

“Onion Ring Day” - this day is all about the crunchy, savory appeal of sliced onions coated in batter or bread crumbs and fried until golden. Onion rings are usually served as a side dish, appetizer, snack or bar-food favorite, often paired with burgers, sandwiches, ketchup, ranch, barbecue sauce or a spicy dip. Onions rings are now strongly associated with American diners, burger restaurants, pubs, and roadside food but exist in many forms. (When I was pregnant with my daughter, my craving and favorite was Dairy Queen onion rings dipped in my strawberry shake.)

“Chocolate Eclair Day” - this is a long pastry made from choux dough filled with cream or custard and finished with chocolate icing or glaze. A chocolate eclair depends on pate a choux or choux pastry that puffs through steam rather then yeast or baking powder. When baked correctly, the shell becomes crisp outside and hollow enough to hold a smooth filling.

My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far, I’ve finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already. Dave Barry

Good evening all. Hope your Saturday was good. I had another migraine today, third day in a row and a stomachache. Was not too productive today. The Under His Wings Celebration Day for Sunday is:

“Father’s Day” - the first Fathers Day was celebrated in 1910, but it took more than six decades for the day to become official. Sonora Smart Dodd who was born in 1882 is recognized as the founder of Fathers Day. Dodd who died in 1978 was raised by a twice married, twice widowed Civil War veteran with 14 children. As a result, she wanted to honor “loving service” of fathers and advocated that fathers should also be honored for their dedication to their families. This day is to simply spend time with your dad, grandfather or even great grandfather and do something special if you want.

“Peaches and Cream Day” - this day centers on a simple summer pairing: ripe peaches served with cream, whipped cream, ice cream, yogurt, custard or another creamy topping. The pairing works because it is simple and flexible. Peaches bring brightness and natural sweetness while creams add richness and a smooth finish. It gives attention to one of the easiest fruit desserts to make at home. No baking, no special equipment, or long ingredient list.

I find television very educational. Every time someone turns it in, I go into another room and read a book.

It doesn’t matter if I sleep 2 hours or 13 hours, I will still be tired the next day.
