Amber is not a beginner weaver. She made this project in Finnväv, an advanced technique that my mom Deborah Stålek wants to teach when we have enough interest. Let us know if you want in on this class!

It would be a two week class, 3 hours per day for 10 days. You would choose a color to contrast with white, make a design, and learn how to make something cool, a pillowcase like Amber or a tapestry or wall decoration is a popular choice. And you'd go home with a finished piece to treasure for generations!

Kate finished threading her loom today, and started sleying the reed. It is going much faster than threading! We moved the reed forward and pulled the warp with it. I am starting to understand how important it is to find a good working ergonomy for the weaver, so we adapt until we find good angles.

I had some quiet time at the studio this afternoon and worked on this rag rug project we set up back in February when my mom was here. It's so pretty, how the grains kind of grow out of this pattern. We call it Axmatta, because it looks like grains of wheat. I also completed my test weave but I have extra warp so I am going to experiment some more next time. The fuchsia warp is cotton, the weft is a thin wool. The last two tests, #9 and #10, used tabby so I had two shuttles, one with the cotton yarn used in the warp, the other the gray wool. The tabby helps it have a really sturdy texture. Come on by to the studio and feel the fabrics for yourself some time! Contact me to schedule your personal tour!

I finished threading my test weave today, and then I sleyed the reed. I got the reed placed and centered in the be**er and will be able to make all the balancing and tie ups next time.

I ended up with 254 threads instead of 252. I think it will still look pretty good. (With this many threads, and with 2 warp braids, it is easy to make a mistake!)

There are 10 different treadle and tie up patterns I want to test before I do a full project. Also two different wefts, a thin wool and a cotton like the warp.

Last week I finished these two shawls made from an alpaca blend. Same warp, same threading, just a different treadling order and different weft colors.

We have now updated all our published classes to include all materials needed to take away the guesswork of how much it will actually cost to weave a project with us.

Go to our website and sign up! Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. We love to see what you make!

We are starting tapestries in our children's class this Thursday! Message me if you want in! It's going to be so fun.

These are the wool yarns I picked up from GlimakraUSA this morning. They are really soft and wonderful to the touch and will be fantastic for our beginner weavers.

I finished the braids this morning! (On the Sweden rug)

Also, here is a picture of one of our students' projects in the children's class. Do you know a child who wants to try weaving? We have spots available, and enrollment is on a rolling basis. Tuesday afternoons at 2-3:30. Lovely Amber is our instructor and she is so kind and patient as well as knowledgeable.

Elisabeth was able to get her warp onto the loom, and started threading it.

I also warped my next project, but you'll have to wait for a picture.

Zelda made great progress on her shawl project and finished her first shawl, and started on her second. She's learning the joy of twill technique! Pictures to come later!

Do you dream of weaving but can't fit in several weeks of weaving into your schedule? Sign up for a group project! We have a few different options that could be set up, and we have gotten some interest already in a table runner project.

We can set up the project, and your participation in set up is optional. Then you'd reserve a week or two when you'd weave your portion of the project, cut yours out, and the next student can come and weave their portion.

The picture below is just an example of what the table runner might look like. We will consult with the group on color scheme before ordering materials.

Link to our interest form in comments.
