My firend's dog just broke out in really bad hives all over and scared her to death. She got in touch with me and I was able to help her identify what they were. Benadryl is a good med to help out with dogs that have allergies. In her case, this happend outside a vets open hour and she really needed to do something quick. The dose for dogs is 1mg of Benadryl for each pound the dog weighs. I am not a vet and if your dog needs medical care I'm always an advocate of taking them in. With allergic reactions like hives though its always a good idea to get it on board as soon as you can though.
My dog Erin has horrible allergies and dogs just like people can become allergic to just about anything at any time. Now we racked our brains on what could be causing them on her boxer. She was feeding him a decent grain-free food with out chicken. Those do tend to be a couple of the big ones. She said that the benadryl seemed to be working but that at night they seemed to come back. He also seemed to wake up feeling better but then would get worse as the morning went on. After looking at everything she was doing I asked her about if she gave him treats. She got really excited and said that she did. They are still training their boxer. He is still a cute puppy. When we looked at those though they were not grain-free. He was getting treats as a reward when he went out to go potty.
You have to remember that a grain - free diet for your pet is GREAT!!! You have to make sure that anything that you give your dog is also grain - free as well. That includes the once in a while little bone treat when you stop at the coffee shop. If your dog is showing allergies you have to be viglent make sure that they never get anything with that ingredent at all no matter how small. I'll be posting more on helpful hints to get you and your furry companion through if this is something that you have to deal with as well.
