/SIGHTcast/ Sight, Cast, Feed - The holy trinity of fly fishing.

As fly anglers, we must devote ourselves to this taxing trinity of fly fishing skills. All three must be balanced; lacking in one area cannot always be compensated by the others.

While casting can be rehearsed on land, sighting and feeding are only improved by time on the water. The emphasis on quality optics cannot be stressed enough, good glass is the first key step in seeing the fish. Visual cues are there to aid the angler, but they must be earned – nervous water, dark spots, flashes, wakes, and the most favorite – tails.

Seasoned salty guides can descry fish hundreds of feet away, while the neophyte may struggle detecting them 10 feet in front of the bow.

As fly anglers, we rarely stumble upon greatness; it must be earned. A lucky cast is seldom made twice.

They say “practice makes perfect,” but for the fly angler… “Practice makes.”
