I’ve always worn a lot of black.

Once, after an org change, I was put in charge of an entirely new department. At my first staff meeting with the new team, every single person showed up wearing black. 😂

I hadn’t sent a memo.
Apparently, I was the memo.

So yes, my fall wardrobe update remains pretty consistent: same black, heavier fabric.

No boring accessories.

Hats and gloves may be practical, but they can also be the part of an outfit that gives it shape, texture, drama and personality.

A dramatic wide-brim hat changes the silhouette. Long Hermès cashmere gloves add texture. Norma Kamali leopard-cuff gloves bring the drama. An embellished Norma Kamali beret adds personality. And a pair of YSL leather gloves proves that even something functional can become the focal point.

That’s one of my favorite things about vintage fashion accessories: the details were often designed to be noticed.

But the idea isn’t limited to vintage or designer pieces.

Mix vintage with newer fashion. Choose pieces you genuinely love. Look for interesting shapes, beautiful materials and details that make even the most practical accessory feel intentional.

Because if you’re going to wear the hat or gloves anyway…

make them count.

Francine has been consulting The Ancient IG Texts. 😂

Apparently somewhere between “don’t edit the caption” and “don’t anger the algorithm,” Instagram tips became folklore.

And now she’s doing the math.

Some Instagram rules are real.
Some are outdated.
Some just get repeated so often we assume they must be true.

At this point, even Francine has questions. 🤭

Dress like the day owes you something.

There’s no rule that says the good outfit has to wait for dinner plans, an event, or a special occasion.

Wear the vintage coat. Carry the good bag. Put on the dramatic shoes.

The clothes you love are meant to have a life outside your closet.

The kids were left unsupervised for five minutes.
The boutique wall did not survive. 😂

Apparently the new rules are: more candy, no bedtime, Cathy needs hair, Luna is bossy… and Daphne’s mustache is now part of the historical record.

Daphne would like it noted that the mustache was temporary.

Another completely normal night at the mannequin boutique.

Wear it again. I promise, nobody’s keeping score. 😂

1990s Norma Kamali understood volume.

This black velvet cocoon jacket from her OMO line is all about silhouette: oversized batwing sleeves, a softly gathered yoke, a rounded cocoon shape, and just enough structure to keep all that volume feeling intentional.

What I love most is how different it looks in motion. On a hanger, it can read almost simple. Worn, the shape completely changes.

Norma Kamali was photographed wearing this same style in the 1990s, which makes this one of those vintage fashion pieces where the design history is just as good as the garment itself.

For vintage collectors snd resellers, this is exactly why silhouette matters.

Sometimes the most interesting piece in the room isn’t the one with the loudest print or label. It’s the one with the shape you can’t stop looking at.

The 1990s may be remembered for minimalism, but Christian Lacroix was never interested in disappearing quietly.

This vintage Christian Lacroix jacket is pure maximalism: an elongated silhouette, dramatic asymmetric collar, rows of covered buttons, gold star appliqués, sequins, velvet and lace.

While much of 90s fashion was stripping things back, Lacroix kept leaning into decoration, historical references and theatrical detail. That tension is exactly what makes his work so interesting to collect now.

More is more. Less is a bore.

And sometimes, fashion is better for it.

The boutique has a new mannequin… and apparently he has opinions. 😂

Meet Nico: pretty, charming, a little theatrical, and very aware of good vintage.

The girls were busy checking him out.
Nico was busy checking out the 1993 Versace.

Priorities.

Welcome to Mannequins After Hours, Nico. I have a feeling you’re going to be trouble.
