If you didn't know - NEVER put a wool sweater in the dryer! This unfortunate accident has caused many household arguments when a family member finds their favorite sweater has shrunk three sizes...

Clothing items made out of natural fibers like wool, alpaca, and cashmere have a tendency to shrink in the dryer because of the microscopic structure of the fibers themselves. They contain hooks, which act like barbs to other fiber strands, and when exposed to heat, moisture, and/or friction, cause interlocking between the fibers themselves. The more interlocked the fibers become, the harder it is to pull them apart from each other, resulting in a felted fabric.

I think it's important to recognize the work my students are doing, especially when it comes to creating larger projects that test their skills. With permission from this student and their guardian, I'd like to showcase this recently created project!

Between the more complex body shape of the "Strawberry Cow" and the frequent color changes, this project would've been tricky even for more experienced crocheters. This student aims to create even more stuffed animals in the future, and I'm sure this project helped expand their skillset for those upcoming patterns.

Congratulations on completing this project!🎉

This fact has definitely caused me to restart projects before...

While the structure of a crochet pattern will be the same no matter if it was written in US or UK terminology, the terms for stitches may be different, or even switched around. For example, what's known as the single crochet stitch in US terminology is referred to as the double crochet stitch in UK terminology, while the double crochet stitch in US terminology is the treble crochet stitch in UK terminology. Knowing if your pattern is using UK or US terms before you work is essential to avoiding headache down the line. Check out the source below for more information on the differences between the two!
