Hiii!! Seems like a good time to re-introduce myself😊

I am Iris, the creator, designer and owner of Reflective Society. I started making reflective fashion accessories after I was hit by a car while I was biking in spring 2011. I wanted to make a cute vest or two for myself but then I fell in love with the materials and couldn’t help but see the many uses. This creative pursuit has grown slowly over the last decade and eventually evolved into the small biz she is today! ⁣
⁣
I am not as much of a biker anymore due to chronic pain. Sometimes I feel embarrassed admitting that. But it also has helped me realize and expand my vision to include items for pedestrians, folks who use mobility devices, dogs, public transit commuters, festival goers and more! What I want most is for your RS gear to feel like your own style and a good fit for *your* visibility needs, whatever they are! However you wear your reflective fashion I genuinely hope it helps you feel bright, shiny and seen💜✨⁣

I’m not huge on year recaps, but if 2022 had a growing edge for me it was definitely markets. I was out there trying many new ones, building connections and community, booking traveling shows, upping my game with more tables/signs, getting a rolly cart to make load-in easier on my body and developing better behind-the-booth organization. I also got my first ever car! (I’ve shared cars with family/partners before but this is my first solo ride ever, at age 37😮) Having access to personal transport hugely impacted my ease getting to markets and my ability to bring aaaall the goods! ⁣

Getting all geared up for this Saturday. It’s the last of the season and we are going out with a bang! There will be several blocks of incredible vendors, costumes and trick or treating at booths!! I’ll have a big old bowl of treats and some reflective tricks up my sleeve!✨ And I’m doubling up with the talented .watts.ceramics and his adorable and spooky mud buddies!!🎃👻👾 ⁣

This year I am really feeling my brightest, glowy-est self on my solar return. In true Libra fashion fabulous adornments keep finding me (mostly for free or cheap), I feel like the world is crushing on me and I feel more energized, extroverted and balanced than usual. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Often, when I feel my fullest self I get nervous. Like many, I hold myself back, feel doubtful and make myself small. Fear creeps in. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
As someone with bipolar disorder, feelings of self-grandiosity have accompanied some of my most detached (manic) moments in my life. I’ve learned to live my life checking myself. Was that self-confidence or dellusion? Was I in my zone of genius or was I checking out of reality ? Was I advocating for myself or unaware of other’s needs?
⁣⁣
I have been pondering these dualities lately as I process old stories through EMDR therapy. When is self-reflection self-destruction? When is introspection an internal interigation? I am 10 years into my diagnosis and I am finding that some of of my old self-awareness techniques have slid into self-policing and self gaslighting. And you know what? Those tactics don’t help heal the wounds, the relationships or the world. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I am grateful to my birthday season and my recent life changes for bringing joy and ease front and center. Cheers to leaning into those sparkly moments without trying to dim my own shine. To marinating in good feelings until that is what feels most familiar, constant and true💜🌟✨

Phew! Spending one of the last weekends of summer at the beach (although this photo is a throwback) and wondering about the wildness of it all! This summer has been a bit of a blur with all the excitement of buying a house, the flurry and exhaustion of moving, and the bustling of many markets. It’s been a joyful shift and a challenging one. ⁣
⁣
I’m really looking forward to cooler weather and this particular swing of seasons that always feels like slipping into a favorite article of clothing.⁣

Hello summer!! I’m firmly back on west coast soil after a joyous extended east coast visit!✨

You can find me popping up in Portland today near from 11-4.⁣

A little reflection from my trip: ⁣
Setting up my wares in a new place/old city reminded me just how far I have come as a human and as an artist. ⁣This simple travel booth setup and impromptu sign was all I needed to spark conversation and connection✨
⁣
Boston was the first city I ever biked in, and this booth was right on the Southwest Corridor one of my all time favorite bike paths! It will always feel a bit like home✨

It was a pleasure to meet so many Boston bikers and connect over common car terror😬⁣
⁣
I love the bike community’s fierce self-protectiveness. Being in the business of reflective clothing I always hear so many harrowing tales from bikers of close calls and/or impacts with cars. It is terrible that car-on-bike accidents are so universal that it’s a quick and easy conversation starter🥴 It’s a reminder that what I do is needed and wanted✨ Thank you for welcoming me with open arms Boston, stay seen out there!! ⁣💜💜💜✨

Have you herd? Reflective Society is having its debuts in my home state of Massachusetts! Tomorrow!! 🎉🎉🎉⁣

The event is out together and the Parade starts at 10:30/11, vending and food and festivities in the park outside the Stonybrook T stop 12-5pm. I can’t wait to see you! 🎪✨✨✨⁣

Hello my loves! In 24h (5pm April 20th) I am closing up the shop till June!!⁣

It’s been a busy spring with lots of bandana production, event applications, quiet mending of my own clothes and many preparations for things to come. I have been feeling so inspired with the return of in-person markets and I’m really looking forward to a full summer of events🌞✨⁣

In the meantime, I am heading to the east coast for a few weeks to celebrate love and re-connect with dear ones. I’ll still be popping on stories for some travel content and of course be taking many reflective photos along the way! ⁣
