Got some newly dyed up fibers in the shop. Falkland, Dorset and Shropshire, all excellent choices for spinning sturdy sock yarn. You can still make other garments as well tho with such fabulous colors. There’s even some Breed bits, 1 oz of fiber if yer not ready to commit to full 4 oz. I’ve named some of them after notable Black women so they’re educational too!

Been spending a lot of time on my other space making utoobs and writing on my wordpress. Just putin myself out there.

So I made a batt. This one is made up of both Polwarth and Polwarth Silk. First I just put color on top of color, then pulled it out, split it down the middle and sent it through again. Then lifted off some rolags. I spun end to end then chain ply to preserve the color. Its only about 100 yards so its just a test of sorts. I call the color POP (pink orange Purple)

Continued from last post: Here's taking off the bobbins

02/04/2024

So I’ve been sampling on my cute widdle eel wheel mini. It’s from the original kickstarter that got this thing on the map. It was $100 for the wheel and came with seven bobbins and some other stuff. Ridiculously cheap for a working spinning wheel.

Lew added a few tweaks: He made this wooden base for it so I can stash a battery so it is truly a travel wheel. I can spin anywhere! He also made me a tension k**b which can more fine tune my tension vs just the stretchy cord.

I can also just plug it into a power source when I’m home and spin for hours. Today I’m spinning some Corriedale to sample for hard wearing hand spun socks. I’ve already spun up two bobbins, which are easy to switch off, and this third bobbin will make a nice sturdy 3 ply for socks. Then I’ll knit them up and wear em around the house and see how long they last

Hey I’m trying out a new pattern! Here’s the problem: Its colorwork and I suuuuck at colorwork. I’m looking for folx who will not only test knit the pattern but be willing to take really good glamour shots I could use

This is a simple pattern for mittens with colorwork charts. It's meant for two colors, one background color and one variegated color but it can be just two solids as well. I think this pattern is for beginner colorwork folx as well as more experienced folx. All experience levels are welcome to test.

I am looking for 2-3 testers and I have 400 yards (2 skeins 200 yards each) of my own hand painted yarn if anyone is interested. Or you can use any fi*****ng weight yarn of yer own.

Compensation will be a copy of finished pattern and 15% off coupon for anything on my website

Deadline: March 1

The testing updates, questions and conversations will be happening on Ravelry in the Testing Pool group threads

A few people have asked me if I’m doing the fiber festivals this year. The answer is no cuz I messed up my back and haven’t been to full capacity since January. This means not only can I *not* stand around on a cement floor for 8-10 hours at a venue, I can’t stand at the dye table and make hundreds of skeins/hanks to sell either.

I’m thinking of a new business model. One that allows me to make a few skeins/hanks at a time and talk about them on my socials. It’s only me here, I don’t have employees or friends that can help me out on an extended basis. I’d like to expand the utoobs and use substack to send out newsletters (that other mail newsletter service -think monkeys - does not have a free tier anymore and I can't afford it). If anyone else knows a good platform let me know.

So in the meantime here’s what I have been (slowly) working on. Enjoy!
