Back in high school my ability to make clothes capped at screen printing hoodies. That is until my friend Nolan showed up with a backpack and pants he made from scratch. I thought he was on a wavelength of genius DIY that I’d never comprehend… No way you can do that with just a sewing machine and some scissors?! I became very curious about sewing, and simultaneously clouded with doubts that I’d ever figure out how to sew something wearable. But seeing Nolan do it cracked that door of possibility open.
Fast forward a decade full of trial and error, I’ve just made Nolan a bespoke pair of jeans. This meant a lot to make jeans for my friend who attempted to teach me to make pants at the start of this journey.
After a handful of calls to discuss fit, fabric and details, we landed on the ingredients for Nolan’s ideal Henry Hawk jeans, or as I call it the Spot Jean. Cut from 10.5 oz reproduction Amoskeag selvage denim, woven in Japan. Drafted, cut and sewn in my studio in Rhode Island. Finished with hand sewn buttonholes, one piece button fly, dart stitching, patent era inspired pocket reinforcements, and more.
