thankful. 🫶🏾

thankful for how far we have come. when we say our family put in our all we put in our all. it wasn’t easy. it still isn’t easy being a new retail shop with a name that puts people on edge. BUT our community shows up. ❤️

i’m thankful for my hubby, parents and in laws for coming in after their normal 10-12 hour days to work another 4-5 hours , coming in on weekends and remodeling the building we are currently in. the blood sweat and tears we all put in into this building still amazes me. and i will never be able to repay them for believing in me and pushing me to get a step closer to my dreams.

we’ve faced quite a few challenges but as do many others and shown up to a few incidents with puke right on our doorstep (a few times now) the glass side door being broken on opening day and comments here and there that i’m amazed people will say out loud. but we still show up.

i’m thankful for my friends who support us and our crazy ideas. i’m thankful for our beginning vendors for believing in us and being in our safe space.

i’m thankful for our community. without a doubt you guys show up for us. we know it’s not easy. but we hear you and will continue to share your thoughts on bringing more of everyone’s culture to our little spot here on meridian. i’m thankful you all remind me Puyallup needs this diversity shop in town. i’m thankful you all feel seen. i’m thankful for those who are not born or married into our culture who want to show up for cooking classes and hispanic game nights or holidays.

we never know where life may take us and our journey with our small business, but one thing is for certain no matter where we are we will make sure to never change our name and what we stand for. ❤️

Buenos dias y feliz domingo 🌼
We wanted to thank our community for coming out last night and celebrating Día de los Mu***os with us. We know how emotional and how special that first week is leading up to November 2nd.

This year was harder for me as I tried to keep myself composed as best as I could, as I had lost an old companion 3 weeks ago. In the past 2 years I have lost 4 souls that I know one day I will see again but not in this time. I cannot have thought of a better way to celebrate them than how we did yesterday.

We would like to thank those who joined us for the rosary led by my abuelita. For me personally that is the the most special and important part of Día de los Mu***os.

At some point I looked up and saw all of us in tears as we prayed for our past loved ones. It is a very special and vulnerable moment and we couldn’t have asked for anything better.

We were surrounded by loved ones and new friends and new community members who already know the culture or are new to our culture but still wanted to be a part of it.

We can’t wait to have you in our space again for more gatherings. 🧡

“We moved here from Texas 17 years ago and soon realized we didn’t have access to all of the Latino food that we were accustomed to in Texas. One of the things we missed the most was the spicy Chamoy candy. We found ourselves ordering our favorite candies from Texas companies. With Ernesto having a culinary degree, he suggested that he just try and make the candy himself. He made a few batches and we shared it with friends and family and everyone jokingly said that we should package this and sell it here in Washington. Little did we know that within two months we would be a full fledged operating business. Family to us is the most important thing. We knew that if we were going to make this a family business, it would have to include all four of us. My oldest son is a graphic designer, and he was able to come up with the creative logo that we have. Our youngest son helps with all of the packaging and attends markets and does a lot of the selling and promoting on social media. This has truly become a family business and we are loving it! Here we are one year later and we are thriving in the Latin community and have been able to introduce our candies, and our culture to people that never thought they would try something like our product.“

As we close the month of Hispanic Heritage we want to give you an insight as to who the people are that help make Nuestro Barrio a safe space for latinos. The first family who gave us a chance to bring their products in our storefront without hesitation. brings to you the sweet, sour, juicy, and salty chamoy sweets and rim dips many of us grew up eating in our Mexican Households BUT Señor Ernesto makes his own chamoy!
