Want to know the best way to care for your new clay earrings? Polymer clay earrings are very durable, but not indestructible. If you want them to last a long time, follow these tips:

1️⃣ Avoid letting them sit or be exposed to heat for too long. If you store them near a window, be sure to keep them covered!

2️⃣ Take them off before showering, swimming, sleeping, etc. The clay will likely make it out ok, but any of the other pieces (like the rings holding multiple earring pieces together, or the posts) won't hold up as well.

3️⃣ Handle them with care! Don't bend them or store them in weird positions (like dumped in purses or toiletry bags). They can withstand a few beatings, but after too long, they're just like us and they'll snap eventually after too much abuse!

I like to think of earrings like this as sisters, not twins. Each of these were created from the same slab and using the same technique, but with their own personality and style that is totally unique to them (and you!) 👯‍♀️

Making magic, not waste ✨ ♻️⁠⁠

It's no secret: polymer clay is plastic. What I do creates waste. Every part of this process - me ordering supplies, creating a plastic product, and then shipping them to you has a ripple effect and impacts the environment. ⁠⁠

This is something I struggled with for a long time (and still do!) How can something that brings me so much happiness be so harmful to the world I love? 🌎⁠⁠

One of my biggest goals for 2021 is to reduce my impact on the environment and one of the first ways is by limiting my waste in the making process. That means being intentional with what I'm creating and getting creative with what's left over. ♻️⁠⁠

What you see here was created from the scraps of the latest designs. I was able to make a few pairs of earrings out of the leftovers, and those are some of my favorites from the whole collection! Swipe through to see what I was able to make. ✨ ⁠⁠

Well ok, it's not totally done yet, but here's how we are at this point in the process. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Miffed by another cold and rainy weekend recently, I went scrolling my camera roll for some memories of nicer times. 😎⁠ so I could hopefully bring a little sunshine into the studio.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
I stumbled upon this photo from my honeymoon two summers ago, and was instantly transported back to the salty air, sun rays, and bright blue waters. 😄⁠⠀
⁠⠀
I pulled it into my ipad to color drop some of the most vibrant parts (swipe for that view) and from there, I had my color palette. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
I then created a slab inspired by those colors and the natural watercolor feel of the photo (which I shared last week) and now, all those pieces are baked and ready to sand and assemble!⁠⠀

There's definitely still some work to do here, but here's a peek into the first half of my process 👀

🥳 SLABURDAY 🎉

If you caught my stories yesterday you saw that I made some new slabs (FINALLY) and here they are!

This technique was the first one I made last year that had me literally squealing and blowing up every group text I’ve ever been in 😆

So I wanted to try recreating it and see if I could ignite that magic again.

Spoiler alert: I did. These slabs (swipe for some color variations) are so stinking beautiful it’s got me squealing all over again.

So I know I asked you yesterday about some shapes, but today I wanna know: which color palette do you prefer? The cool or warm colors?

Shop is open for 2021!

I had all these grandiose plans to create a whole new collection, have a long lead-up, and open up with a bang, yet here we are.

With the fresh start from yesterday (and with my fresh delivery of shipping supplies FINALLY) I'm ready to open up shop again! The shop's loaded up with my staple styles, and a few of the remaining pieces of the prior collections that haven't been claimed yet (I'm talking sea glass, stone collection, and even some mermaid beauties)!
