Jeff here…with my “Shoemaker” hat on - -
A couple months ago I got in a big shipment of Elkhide. The last remaining stock from the last remaining wholesaler of this product.
The first hide I pulled turned out to be pretty holey and scraped up, so I wondered about the rest of the pieces. I decided to open up every piece to make sure I didn’t buy an entire lot of unusable Elk.
….I’m happy to report that only two hides are not suitable for the 15th century Thigh-High Riding boots I make. Of the remaining 30 or so, 5 are blemished but I can strategically cut around the blemishes, and the other ~25 pcs are in good shape.
I love Elkhide; it’s thick but is amazingly supple has an unparalleled soft buttery hand, making it the perfect material for these boots. It smells nice too! 😁
So, as I said, this is last stock I’ve found and I may not be able to get more. Order your boots while you can.
