Yesterday (Jan 1, 2023), Mission Shirts turned 11 years old. Rather than writing a sappy post about how much I appreciate my customers like no other (and I do), I wanted to post a word of encouragement.
A long time ago I lost a job and it left me in a huge financial crisis. Way back then, I committed to never rely on one source of income again. Since then, I've done a variety of things on the side to act as a safety net.
Mission Shirts wasn't started for that purpose, but that's what it became.
My encouragement to anybody needing extra income is to think about what you could do as a side hustle, which could flourish into a business.
I started this company with two very small unexpected amounts of money that came in within a couple of weeks of each other. I waited for a few weeks to decide what I wanted to do to multiply that money. Out of that came Mission Shirts.
People say you need a lot of funding and resources to start a business. That's poppycock. You just need an idea, determination, and strategic thinking to make it happen.
Good luck. In 11 years, I hope somebody posts on their company's 11th birthday that they got started because of a little encouragement this post provided.
