Theme: focused on the relationship between fashion, art, and the human body.

The 2026 Met Gala theme, “Costume Art,” explores the idea that fashion is a form of fine art, focusing on the “dressed body” as it appears through the Metropolitan Museum’s Collection. Curated by Andrew Bolton, the accompanying exhibition will juxtapose historical and contemporary garments with paintings, sculptures, and other artworks to highlight their formal and conceptual connections.

Organized around themes such as the Naked Body, Classical Body, Pregnant Body, and Aging Body, the show aims to broaden representation and deepen the conversations about how we see and interpret the human form.
