She was good at it. The sheer quantity of items she made gave her expert status. She taught me that it was not necessary to have a store-bought pattern that showed her every step of the way. I watched her take someone's idea (something we saw at the store but couldn't afford, or an original design for a wedding dress, for example) and figure out how to get it done. She was creative and brave, will
ing to try just about any project just to see if she could do it. She found happiness in sewing, humming hymns while her Pfaff was humming along the seams. Now it is my turn. Our creative God gave me the desire to create in much the same way as my mother. I've spent years creating costumes for our community theater, making clothes for my children who are now grown, and helping family and friends with alterations and projects. I love the creative process of solving a design problem, whether in clothing (like my daughter's wedding dress) or household storage (like the organizer for our camper kitchen). It's fun to personalize an item and make it special and meaningful for the wearer or user. I want the finished product to bring a smile.
