Following the mayhem of 9/11 we answered my grandmother's call to come home from our island outpost, as we had been living on Kauai.

We flew back to the mainland as soon as we could, in late September. By Halloween we had answered the rallying call of our nation to get out and travel... we got a cargo trailer and we hit the road!!

We drove the blue highways and hit the out of the way downtowns turned ghost towns as commerce centers moved to the outskirts where development continued.

We hit every antique store from here to Shipshewana, IN where we spent Thanksgiving. We then upgraded our trailer for something larger, unpacked and unloaded then repacked and reloaded and made the trek back, along new backroads, meeting new folks and getting the chance to climb through new junk yards and double decker barns.

In the smoldering ashes of one of our countries worst disasters, we roadtripped and spread some money around as a means of connecting with our fellow Americans. As the miles clicked by we daydreamed about our future and what kind of business we were going to build...

Today, nearly 20 years later, that vision continues to grow and change. Three years ago we moved into MidTown under the roof of and our plans just keep expanding.

Foster Friess was a great man. He was a successful businessman, a staunch Conservative and a Christian... and I respect all three! Wyoming lost a great patron, and leader, this past May.

I was honored to be presented with the Best of Show award at the 2009 Western Design Conference by Foster and his wife, Lynn.

We were recently grieved to learn of the untimely passing of Foster Friess, our sympathies are with his family.

We had occasion to meet Foster a number of times when we were doing more shows in Wyoming. Among the many things that Foster was known for was his support of the arts. He and his wife, Lynn, for many years, sponsored the "Best of Show" award given at Jackson Hole's Western Design Conference. In 2009 our own Harriette Allison won the award. Foster and Lynn presented the award to her at a formal ceremony held at the National Museum of Wildlife Art but this casual photo was snapped on the show floor when the Friess' dropped by to see us.

We were moved by Foster's passing just as we were moved by his generosity, conviction and love of country while he was alive.
